"delivery" SCAMS!?

a month or so ago, go an email about the delivery of an Amazon purchase i made. something costing over $300 that i knew i didn't purchase. there was the option to call an 800 number, but i remember i didn't immediately do that. when i started getting anxious, i actually had to google "amazon" for contact number. pleasant person on other end... 1st question... what's my amazon account number? i don't have one. was told... that was someone trying to get info. my initial thought was, i didn't want to deal with getting $$ back where it belongs. if i had called the number on the original email, would have been told... all is well, but would have given up more info to scammers.

now seems like i get similar emails every single day. i don't do a lot of online shopping so anything out of line would stand out. are you seeing this more frequently?

Not sure that it’s more often. What I see is that they’re getting much much better at the scam email.

One from our big Telco provider was (almost) perfect. The only thing wrong was that we knew our payment went through. If someone had marginal payments, they might have opened it.

The Telco had a warning on their site that this was happening.

I got a $600.00 charge on my credit card for videos from Amazon that I didn't order. The e-mail I received before I got my statement even had Amazon's logo on it.
Amazon & the credit card company took care of it right away; they're aware of the scam.

I recently had a phone call where a person said they were from Amazon. Amazon does text verification, two step. This person said someone tried to use my account and started asking me questions. I asked about the text verification. They sounded lame. I hung up.

Goggled Amazon’s number talked to the fraud department, it was a scam. Amazon will text you, not call you. This is the second time in three months this has happened.

not doing that much online shopping has its advantages. i know what i've ordered.

My credit card company only accepts orders from this device. They also use my phone to verify its really me. In theory, it shouldn't be possible for anyone to order anything on my accounts.

I had an email saying my order had shipped. I called the number for info a I knew I had not ordered anything then. The guy started asking personal questions about my account so I hung up. There was a reason it went to my spam folder but I clicked on it anyway. No more. I get them but they go to spam and I delete them.

I got 2 this week that said Alert! Someone is using my Chase credit card without my permission and they were going to lock the account if I didn't click on something. I just said to myself, "well go ahead and lock it" and then I deleted it. The first one, the word alert was misspelled but the second, Alert was spelled correctly. Yesterday, I got one from a Susan and it said "Are you there?". That is another one that is going around. I thought that anyone that knows me can call me so I deleted it. I didn't know a Susan anyway especially one that has that email address.

Meanwhile, I'm still getting daily warnings via phone that my car's warranty is about to expire. I guess people are still falling for that one, or they would have found another scam by now.

I also keep getting warnings supposedly from PayPal about my account. I never use PayPal.

I'm pretty wise to those kinds of emails from Amazon et al... but recently since Brexit, we've now had to py customs tax on anything we order outside of the UK.. and for the first time we're receiving texts from 'Royal Mail'.. saying our parcel need to have ££ amount in tax before it can be delivered...
The Email looks authentic, and the amount is just under £3...( no Nigerian thousands).. but of course it gets people believing it must be real, and clicking on a link to pay...*sigh*...

my bottom line on this scam topic... whether by phone ot email... has been and probably always would be... DO NOT RESPOND... PERIOD! thn someone in the conversation will say... "but..." well, everybody's got a big but... just don't respond.

not exactly a scam, but worked at a philly business college for a few years. had a few students who would come to me for math help. one morning one comes spinning thru like Taz... "here, read this! think i've won a bunch of money! see ya after class!" within 30 seconds of reading, knew she had been taken... nothing illegal. student comes back after class and i said... please tell me you didn't call that number... it wasn't an 800/toll-free. she said yes and then went on about how she was on hold for about 45 minutes! in the not microscopic but "small print" it says calls last an average of 40-45 minutes and COST something like $3.99 a minute! needless to say i made her do the math. she had given up her credit card number!

Yes, Daily. on my phone. I've been charged $400. and if this is a mistake, I have to call this number and ask for extension # ?
The phone call is from different numbers.
I just don't answer.
They are bound to give up eventually.
