Swear Words in Posts

I was wondering about the use of offensive words
in Posts, they don't bother me, but they do upset
may people and they are moderated, which is good.

If you are offended by bad language and somebody
wants to show where a bad word would go does the
use of Z887=5@@$**Z in its place also offend, or is
****** without the start and finish letter make it more
acceptable?

I know that we should all try to write without the need
to use any of these words, I do, but many seem to be
unable to find a way.

This is not directed at anybody on these forums, just a
little thought that I have had, my brain only does little.

I'm ok as long as they are not part of an attack directed towards an individual or their posts/participation.

IMO using initials or assorted characters as a substitute for an off-color word or accepted slang is sort of silly when it comes to a forum for people who've pretty much heard it all.

If the use of any word seems inappropriate or you are ashamed to use it you should probably look for a better way to express your thoughts.
 
Speaking for myself, I would rather not see swear words in posts (or the alternate related to a series of characters/figures).

IMO finding alternatives reflects a more educated individual that's more able to express themselves in a mature and respectable way.

I've been around sailors and bar-flies before, and nothing related to their conversation is interesting, account their overuse of expletives.

As for being offended, I'm not, however, I just don't care for it.

I swear pretty frequently irl. It's not a vast lexicon and used primarily for emphasis - I'm not a little angry/concerned/upset, I'm very angry/concerned/upset. But while I'm writing here, I do take the time to choose emphasis words that don't offend. Which is why, sometimes, it takes me 3X as long to post a freaking comment.
 
To my way of thinking swearing is for construction workers, drunks in bars, people who have accidents and maybe plumbers under your sink. For the rest out there there are many other words to express your negative feelings about things. Swearing seems to me to be pretty low class and an easy out for people with limited education and a lack of vocabulary. Swearing in a modern film does not replace good acting or a great story plot but when these 2 factors are missing then Hollywood caters to the lowest forms of life on this planet. Of course, all those who swear all the time will disagree with me. Ah! Such is life!

Hi John,
I hope that you are not inferring that all construction workers and plumbers are of low education and prone to swearing. I have several mates in both of those occupations and I would wager that they are just as intelligent as you or I, and don't swear!
 
I don't get offended by x-rated words. I try not to use them so I usualy would use an obvious example being P**P. I don't like it when people insult other people which I really don't see in this forum. I hope I have never offended anyone here.
 
I don't swear as a habit, but somehow, after I have accidentally clouted my thumb with a hammer causing a blood blister the size of a plum to appear, the words, "Oh dear, silly me, I really am so clumsy" somehow don't fit the bill.
I'm not about to tell you what words I would have used at a time like that, or, the irritation of not knowing where I had flung the hammer. :)
 
These days when nothing seems even remotely sane anymore, WTF seems to be a perfectly valid question to be asked on nearly a daily basis. However, there are other ways to ask it, such as "just what the heck IS going on anyway?". Somehow, it just doesn't seem to have quite the same impact. :ROFLMAO:

I swear. But I’ve never worked in construction, or as a plumber, or been drunk. I was in a bar, once, to hear my son sing. I am somewhat educated. I swear. Sometimes I swear a lot, sometimes not. Having lived on a marine base and been in the army I know the swear words. I even know what they mean. So, there you go. I’ve confessed, after all, I am Catholic. 😳
 
Whoa here, whoa: Hellfire and damnation ain't cussing , is a phrase with several interruptions.
If you want to learn how to cuss, run with a bunch of sailors.
Cussing is a rite of passage for males; i don't know how one could make it through our armed services without learning to cuss.

Today, females are not hesitate to drop a line of profanity.

We all know profanity is merely a place holder until you can sort out your emotions.

Cussing ain't worth a damn, but, but sometimes. sometimes...
