We drove to my daughters home over the weekend to celebrate my grandsons birthday as well as my own, we were born on the same day in July. We had a wonderful time and as usual my daughter made it special for both of us.
My daughter lives in a development with a community pool that has a cute little book exchange nearby. It is built out of wood with siding and has make believe windows and is on posts. The front has two doors that when opened has plenty of space for people to leave or take books.
I save my books that I've read and take them when I visit.
Just before we were about to leave I asked my daughter if she wanted to drive me there since it was so hot. She parked the car and I got out and made my way to the exchange,
I opened the doors and noticed many of the books were not left in an orderly fashion. I was arranging them so I could read the titles and leave mine. I guess I disturbed a wasps nest and they flew at me with a vengeance.
I was stung on both hands and on my upper lip. My daughter was behind me at that point and was stung also.
We made our way back to the car and by the time I got back to the house my tongue was numb.
My son in law is a doctor and gave me some meds he had. I'm not allergic to stings but it was scary when my tongue was affected.
We stayed for awhile making sure I was feeling ok.
My daughter notified the HOA and they were going to take care of the wasps.
By evening the pain has subsided and my tongue was better but the area is still swollen today.
I noticed there are always some children's books inside. I'm glad my grandsons weren't with us and hope other kids hadn't gotten stung earlier.
A birthday I won't forget.
