The bulk of single adults trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border do not want asylum and instead want to sneak in undetected, the latest sign that the illegal immigration crisis has reached a catastrophic stage.

Just in the El Paso Sector, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that 77% of illegal immigrants are trying to evade capture — and the numbers are shocking and “historic.”

“More than 77% of the primary demographic apprehended are single adults attempting to evade arrest and NOT seek asylum,” said the agency with emphasis. “There have been 104,208 single adults encountered so far in FY21 compared to a total of 39,006 single adults encountered in the El Paso Sector in FY20,” it added.

Hard to believe that this is true. <----- meant to be sarcastic.

IMO it's just another sensationalized article with little value.

It's no surprise to me that the majority of undocumented people coming across the border want to avoid capture, duh.

IMO all most of them want is a chance at a better life for themselves and their families.

When I hear the average person talking about seeking asylum I believe that they have been coached to use that language in the event that they are apprehended at the border.

Until the quality of life in their home countries improves they will continue to come.

IMO We need to find a simple way to issue a work permit/visa and welcome this eager source of human capital.

Personally, I would rather work with these young folks than the young Americans that are content to live in their parent's basement or sleep on their parent's couch.

This "illegal immigrant" issue will be with us so long as the nations those people are leaving are run by corrupt politicians and the drug cartels. One can hardly blame them for trying to escape a life of poverty and crime. There are some who come here to further their life of crime, and wind up in our cities as members of the local drug gangs...and They should be rounded up and given harsh punishments.

However, it seems that most are just trying to find a life where they can get a job, and live a life without fearing for their lives. Besides, they Do take the jobs that our own people are unwilling to take...and that, in itself, is probably a good thing.

I have a friend that lives in Texas. He said the men/teenagers coming across the border are all killers or dope dealers. He said 80% of the men & women in Texas now have to carry a weapon or they will get carjacked, house broken into. He's been almost carjacked twice he's told me.

That is until he pulls out his 45 cal. long gun. Then they scram when they see that.

It is more of a case of running from than to. South America is cesspool of gangs and drug cartels that run the governments. People there are scared to death of the bad people, Drugs and guns are the major exports of some of the South American countries.

Per the article that Knight linked:

“Presently, El Paso Sector agents have arrested a total of 1,815 individuals in 195 stash houses. Agents have also foiled 920 human smuggling schemes this FY alone,” said the agency in a release.

El Paso Sector narcotics totals for the year include:
• More than 5,000 pounds of marijuana.
• More than 600 pounds of methamphetamine.
• More than 300 pounds of cocaine.
• More than 40 pounds of fentanyl.
• More than 30 pounds of heroin."

(The stash houses they're talking about are a bunch of abandoned houses all along the border. Illegal migrants move into them and do business.)

So, given what @Knight and @Murrmurr have posted, it's not just about trying sneak over the border to try to live a better life. Gangs, drugs, and human smuggling ...
Yeah, I think there's a lot of that.

Not to be confused with migrant workers. Those guys come to work for a few months, go back home to take care of their families, and come back when there's work again.

I think people tend to confuse the two.

That's the way it used to be, now a migrant worker is offered $5,ooo.oo to carry a backpack ' only fifty miles off your route.'

Well said, Aunt Bea.

We now have about 2 million illegals in this country. They are being transported to cities within the U.S. None of these illegals have been tested or vaccinated and you should also know that some of these illegals are coming in from the Western Hemisphere. Many are either felons or gang members.

They are being handed money, insurance papers, food and set up in housing all at taxpayer expense.

The vast majority of immagrants coming to the U.S. are looking for farm jobs and other types of menial labor.
Most of the United States’ 10.7 million unauthorized immigrants live in just 20 major metropolitan areas, with the largest populations in New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth, according to new Pew Research Center estimates based on government data.

I'll agree with the menial jobs but not to the farms

Kinda like the politically correct " unauthorized immigrants"

I looked for info on how illegals positively benefit America & was surprised to find a few. Looking for negatives was much easier.

I'm sure there would be a high concentration of illegal immigrants in large cities, people gravitate there for the mired of opportunities.

I'll agree with the menial jobs but not to the farms
??? Not the farms? If you drive by a field of crops being harvested guess who you see? Lots of immigrants, specifically Hispanic workers here in California.

Aren't we in the western Hemisphere? I believe we are.

And no, undocumented immigrants are not being handed money, insurance, food, or housing or anything else at taxpayer expense.

Check your facts.

Well, here is it on the farms If we didn't have the migrant workers, most of them undocumented, picking crops, most of it would rot in the fields. There's a whole army of them who come in and pick chile, onions, etc.

Well good heavens, I would expect more than 77% to "try to evade capture." More like 100% Why would they risk their lives to come to this country and then just say, "OK, you got me. Here I am!" This is supposed to be news?

The key being NOT seeking asylum. Seems pretty obvious that 23% ARE seeking asylum.

Border Patrol agents who work along U.S. borders saw a 13,951% increase in Venezuelans taken into custody between June 2020 and this June, BPC’s Grace Kluender wrote

Last June, just 80 Brazilians were apprehended. The 6,678 Brazilians seen last month is an 8,248% increase.

Cuban apprehensions increased from 14,000 as of June 2020 to more than 26,000 last month. Migration from Haiti is up 2,906% in the same period.

More than 34,000 people from the Philippines and 4,369 Romanians were stopped at the border. The “other” category of migrants, whose home country could not be determined, doubled to more than 37,000 this year.

Hard to ignore the why of illegal entry is skyrocketing but that kind of discussion is not allowed.

The problem with that thinking ... those criminals coming over the Texas border are not staying in Texas.
They are migrating all over the country quickly ... and beyond.
