Good News: McDonald's Just introduced its first-ever Vegan burger.

It will cost them a fortune to duplicate the
flat top grill to cook them on, no vegan, I
believe will buy any from McDonalds, when
they realise that both meat and vegetable
versions, are cooked on the same griddle.

No I am not a vegan, or a vegetarian, but
I can see this happening.

Mike.

Even if this happens it's still less meat so it's a step forward (for vegans and vegetarians).

This is all a bit too one-sided. If food outlets are expected to cater for vegans / vegetarians, why don't vegan / vegetarian outlets cater for meat eaters, pescetarians etc..?

Probably because the percentage of vegans/vegetarians is so small. I wouldn't expect too many vegan/vegetarian outlets to be in an area so they focus on only those products.

It all depends on why someone is a vegetarian or vegan. Ethical vegan probably wouldn't unless it's separate grills. People who are reducing meat consumption for whatever reason may try it. People who are vegan for their health probably don't frequent fast food joints often if at all.

I'm an ethical vegan but I'm also a pragmatist and I would still go for it. Anything that reduces meat consumption is good for me!

I am glad they are doing it, (for multiple reasons)
even though I don't personally eat there.
As a different issue, I do wonder what the list of ingredients are.
That would determine for myself, whether I would want to order it, if I ever did go there.
What is in it? :unsure::giggle::geek:

From the article:
"The new burger has launched in partnership with the US-based, meat-substitute brand, Beyond Meat, and is made from plant-based ingredients including yellow peas, coconut, potato and beetroot juice. What's more, it's topped with vegan cheese and a vegan sandwich sauce."

and Beyond Beef's ingredients (as on their site):
"Water, pea protein*, expeller-pressed canola oil, refined coconut oil, rice protein, natural flavors, dried yeast, cocoa butter, methylcellulose, contains 1% or less: potato starch, salt, potassium chloride, beet powder color, apple extract, pomegranate concentrate, sunflower lecithin, vinegar, lemon juice concentrate, vitamins and minerals (zinc sulfate, niacinamide [vitamin B3], pyridoxine hydrochloride [vitamin B6], cyanocobalamin [vitamin B12], calcium pantothenate).

*Peas are legumes. People with severe allergies to legumes like peanuts should be cautious when introducing pea protein into their diet because of the possibility of a pea allergy. Contains no peanuts or tree nuts.

Thank you, @CAKCy !:)

And yes, then, I hope it succeeds there, and I would try it.
And I would choose it over their regular menu items and over some other food options.
I haven't ever had the chance to try that particular brand, but I would, if I could.

There is increasing demand for plant based (vegan) foods. As someone who moved to eating a plant based diet nearly 8 years ago (for both ethical and health reasons), I know many others who've embraced this eating choice, and even more who've increasingly shifted to eating meatless meals.

People shift to veganism for myriad reasons - and only the purest of vegans would insist on a separate grill. In any event, McD's grills are scraped down between burger grilling batches so it's not like the vegan burgers would be swimming in beef suet. (I worked at a McD's during college years and know whereof I speak.)

All that said, Beyond and Impossible burgers aren't particularly healthy choices, but they are at least a non animal flesh option. McDonald's is responding to consumer demand. Glad to see it.
