First Anti-Viral Pill for C-19 Has been approved for use in the UK

The first anti-viral pill for Covid-19 that can be taken at home will be "life-changing" for Roanna Maharaj, who has a blood disorder, and millions of others still shielding from the virus. The Molnupiravir pill, which has been approved for use in the UK, can be taken by people who have had a positive Covid test and have at least one risk factor for developing severe illness, such as obesity, being over the age of 60, diabetes or heart disease.

But it's been rushed to market and not tested long enough - experimental!
Big pharma trying to line their pockets even more!
Poison in a pill form rather than injections!

Sounds tentatively like very good news. But offering a pill after a person has gotten sick and could be in the hospital doesn't sound to me like a great substitute for getting vaccinated so you don't get sick in the first place. It's certainly better than nothing.
 
Just for clarification, is this thread about the Merck drug named Molnupiravir?

The Pfizer drug that is not approved anywhere yet, is called Paxlovid. It should be pointed out that Paxlovid results were due to being combined with another drug, Ritonavir, in low dosage.

Just trying to keep up.

Vaccinated people can get Covid and be hospitalized and some die, so it's not just for the unvaccinated.

Yes, the OP (Original Post in this thread)
is referring to that one, and thanks for clarifying, that yes, it's made by Merck, and is farther along in the approval process than the Pfizer one.

Right again, and thanks, again. :)

Ritonavir has been used for other illnesses , and has known side effects, though for this , would be taken short-term.

By the way, our threads, often do begin with a topic, and then, posters do make comments on related things, that come to mind, that aren't strictly limited to the original post.

it destroys dna.this has been pointed out as well. by some.. the unvaccinated die at a much higher rate as well .this has been pointed out many times.

I'm sure that as time passes, more permanent cures will be found for this virus. It's a wonder that the vaccines were developed and made available as quickly as they were. Had there been no vaccines developed, the death toll would likely be in the 10's of millions by now, and our society would be virtually shut down.
