Cane fu

Great post!

Cane Masters is probably the best in the business - well, if it IS a "business" - of cane defense. They have great canes and instructional materials, but as always with this kind of training it's best received in person.

I just checked their list of certified schools, and there aren't too many - no surprise there - but the one in PA is run by a church pastor. :triumphant:

Just an addendum: if you don't really need a cane but still want a little equalizer you can always go for the Unbreakable Walking-Stick Umbrella - it is the "weapon of choice for the personal security guards of the president of the Philippines" and even keeps you dry in the rain!

If I'm going to fight with a cane I want this one.

Lol, SifuPhil! :D I see an elderly woman in my neighborhood, and almost every morning she takes a walk. She always had a golf club in her hand, and holds it in a similar position as one would hold a cane. But I noticed that it never touches the ground, just hovers a couple of inches above it. There are some coyotes in a nearby field area that may sulk around the trails and streets at times, so she's smart to carry it...good equalizer.

My hubby fashioned a walking stick years ago, when we were camping in the wilderness. When I take off on the back trails near where I live, I carry that, to help fend off any coyotes too. One spring, when I was walking my dog on a leash, we happened upon a mother coyote with her pup. We'll she was not happy, and although I didn't have any sticks, I managed to keep her at bay. She did follow us closely for a long time, looking to protect her pup, which she left behind.
