I have read many of your posts & understand a position you would take. My post wasn't to challenge faith, it was to have definitive proof either way. Wouldn't you be happy if the proof came down on the side of those with faith?

I think the question was about scientific discovery, which assumes that this discovery will apply to everyone. I was not thinking of only myself when I wrote the answer, but the whole human race. I am pretty confident that a discovery like this will "change the course of humanity." Now, if this discovery is for the good or for the bad, that's another topic of discussion.

Yes...that would be a good topic for discussion. One con: If everybody lived forever we'd have a very overpopulated planet full of starving people. And God only knows how severe the negative impact on our environment would be. So the invention that allowed us to live forever would have to include a method to prevent those problems. BUT scientists are already working on installing our consciousness into vessels, in essence allowing us to live forever as AI's.

You're right in everything you wrote! But I was answering Bretrick's request in suggesting a scientific discovery. I was not saying that it was something I particularly cared for. As I replied to OneEyedDiva, this suggestion was in answer to Bretrick's request about a scientific discovery that would change the course of humanity. I wasn't particularly enthralled with the idea, but I was more focused on the change that would happen. Yes, you have very good points, and I respect that and agree with everything you say. I am not afraid of death, and I do believe in a soul. But the way the world is going, technologically speaking, I'm afraid that we will one day reach that path. We're already growing human cells in labs and they are considered immortal. All the best!
