Another school shooting,

OK, everyone fess up and tell us what kind of gun you took to school when you were a youngster.🤪
A water pistol. Seriously though....any juvenile who commits such a crime should be treated as an adult, IMO. Instead, this thug will probably be sent to some juvenile facility, and released when he turns 18, or 21, to begin his adult life of crime.

Suspect in Michigan high school shooting is a 15-year-old sophomore at the high school, authorities say. I think that the teenage years are some of the most traumatic moments in anyone's life, feelings are so intense, sometimes they result in tragic events like this one.

Back in the early 50s guys had guns & ammo in their cars & racks in the back of trucks. we took out guns inside the school to work on them. The shop teacher helped us repair or chrome plate them. He would also go with us after school to the local dump to shoot rats.

I'm still a firm believer that they need to send the teachers to CCP school at the police dept. take the training & then arm them. One shot from a teacher would have stopped all this today.

Our schools have police officers in them. The problem is the schools are over 2,000 ft. long & some 2 stories high. So by the time the officer got there many would die.

Actually, I carried a .22 cal rifle to school, one nite a week, because we had a rifle club which practiced at the school
auditorium....but never shot anyone....
In the late 60s and early 70s long guns were common in the fall and winter at our school. Most of the country kids had a gun rack in their pickup trucks and so did their parents.

We also had hunter safety classes on school property.

At that time and in that setting guns were common tools of everyday country life.

Now they have been banned on school property.

It’s a different world.😢

The first thing I always wonder when I see a story like this is: how did the 15 y/o get his hands on a gun? Was it his parents'? Did he buy it off the street? Is it a ghost gun? And what's the story at home that a child would even think about doing something like this? Was he bullied? Abused?
A student was interviewed on a late-night news report. He said the student was constantly bullied. (much like the Columbine shooters).
I can say from personal experience, school administrators do absolutely nothing about bullying. When I told the principal & teachers, they told me "You are old enough to fight your own battles." When I did that, I was suspended for fighting in school.

I went to school and grew up in a rural truck farming community in the 60's and 70's. Just about everyone including students carried a shotgun in their vehicle. Like you said it was a different world then. Most were taught to hunt at an early age. That included a familiarity with firearms safety and operation and also a respect for life. I think a big catalyst for the types of violent crimes and violent behaviors we experience today is the desensitizing effect TV, films, video games and the news media has on the population.

When I was younger I thought it was negligible. That a healthy mind would not be adversely affected by it. Now I have to admit I was wrong. As an after thought I wonder If an unfamiliar entity was in the process of learning about humans if they would consider us very violent and dangerous and act accordingly. TV and radio signals go out into space in all directions and distances. In thousands of years after we are all dead and gone those signals will be a part of our legacy. Of course it will not matter then or will it?

@Tom 86, I am appalled at that suggestion.
I did not become a teacher to shoot at students.
Times have changed. People have to change also. Would you rather see many kids & maybe yourself get slaughtered or would you pull the trigger to shoot the one that has the gun & save many lives?

Here's a third alternative:

How about the teacher with lousy aim, who accidentally kills a perfectly innocent student instead? Why would every armed teacher necessarily be a sharpshooter?

Outside of the moral implications of this nightmarish idea, there are practical reasons (such as the above) why it would never work.

However, maybe the schools should have armed security guards, and the teachers should have alarm buttons.

We have armed security guards at our schools here. The problem is if the shooter comes in one door the security guard could be 2,000 ft. away from them. Most are retired police. So they are heavyweight & can't run.

If the teachers go through the police CCP training & get a weapon that is fit for their size & strength. It also has a laser on it, so where ever that laser dot is that is where the bullet will go. So no lousy aim

I've been through two of the CCP schoolings & they are very thorough & they make sure that person is capable of handling the weapon. It can be a difference in that person's life also they might be dead on the floor.

Being a "Sharpshooter" is not necessary for defensive firearm use.
One of the biggest myths is that defensive shooting requires lots of skill & expertise & only an "elite" group of people are able to do it.
We aren't talking about 100-500 yard shooting, where a high level of skill is necessary. We are talking about hitting a fairly large man-sized target across a room.
As a competitive shooter & instructor, I have taught many people to shoot defensively in 30 minutes. That included women who never touched a gun.

It is a mental health breakdown.... bullying is not OK but little or nothing is done about it. What can be done people have picked on those who seem different since the dawn of time.

Kids also need to learn how to deal with those whose main goal is to provoke them. Happens all the time now days
Not end up in a situation like this.

Look at the discord kids SEE everyday ............people saying the most awful things wishing death etc about other simply because they disagree on a specific issue..........( insert issue here).
When they see that sort of crazy on TV in social media in real life etc.............in a young mind any weapon may be the way to resolve things

Media stirs to fuel a gun debate............. but there have been stabbings...... but that doesn't get the Clicks on internet news or Viewers/ Ratings for cable news. the word GUN almost always triggers a immediate response.
Perhaps waiting until all the facts are out is more important then debating CCP or gun control etc.

some have the attention span of a few seconds ....
AS we speak the trial is ongoing of that actor who is accused of FAKING his own hate crime.
Remember the outrage the instant reaction and those who said never mind and ran away from their soapbox after the whole story comes out.
