Jordan Peterson - (wake up!!) It's worse than I thought| This Is where it leads. (new)

Jordan Peterson reminds me of a homeless guy downtown who rants at people emotionally but never really says anything substantial. He just goes from topic to topic and blathers on about Carl Jung just to have words coming out of his mouth, or it seems like that's his only goal when he talks.

David Graeber is another one like that. He just blathers on and on without saying much of anything.

I guess both of them are what pass for philosophers in this day and age.

Peterson is one of the most intelligent, forward-thinking men I've ever encountered.

Sounds like wisdom to me.

I found myself miserable at work in my mid thirties. The boss was a tyrant and I was in her sights.
I went out on a limb and applied for another job that was completely out of my comfort zone.

Career wise, it was the best thing I ever did.
What followed was 25 years of fruitful employment and personal growth.

What's that old saw? "I was looking for a job when found this one". Then I went to work for myself and really found out what work was. A lot more work, but also much more satisfying, and when something goes south, there is only yourself to blame, which can be a path to character development, or some such. Mike

All he really said was if you're miserable in your job, leave it for another one.
I picked up something else.

I intuited him to be saying that if your work results in your principles are being violated, make a leap of faith and leave, even if you don't know where you are going to land. Sort of like , "To thine own self be true..."

An alien guy with a tin helmet giving an intellectual genius a critique. FABULOUS🤣

He's not a philosopher, he's a psychologist. A lot of what he says is just common sense: Exercise self-discipline. Take responsibility for your actions. Think about where you want to be, then develop a plan to get there.

He suffers from a bit of grandiosity and verbosity, for sure. And his personal life is a mess. But people on one side of the political spectrum seem to hate him because he doesn't recommend that you do whatever you want and then let the government clean up the damage.

Jordan is a real trip. He is highly intellectual and lost in empathetic/sympathetic emotions. But, he is very transparent. For me I can't believe sometimes how he says the same thing for 1/2 hour though. He is just free associating all the intellectual knowledge he has about psychological phenomena. He made a big mistake after his wife died, and started taking psyc meds. ( when they were becoming very contraversial - especially a psychologist should know the risks ) He had a horrible time ( and still does occasionally ) tapering off of them. Quite a story in itself.
My take is at least move in the dierection of what fulfills you. Don't just quit your job, but make a commitment to not giving up on what you want. You might find out it was stupid, or a bad move, but the struggle also is important, so keep going even if it seems hopeless. Hopelessness is what he seems to be guiding the listener away from.

Changing jobs? The question mark is because I've been out of the work force for 26 years now. I could be wrong but changing jobs isn't as easy as when I was doing that. The longest I worked for one employer was 23 years. That was because variety within the job changed. I guess what the speaker was promoting is what I did all my years in the work force.

Maybe there is something to what you do as a wage earner to having good health. I enjoy great health.

Free associating is a good way to describe what he's doing. Blabbering on and on is another. :ROFLMAO:

It's a far better description than, say, disorganized rambling or blabbering. He does detour but he rarely goes completely off-topic, the detours do relate, you just have to pay a lot of attention, and that isn't always easy. He's admitted that himself. His problem is that he wants to convey the bigger picture, but he's mistaken to think that's always necessary. It usually isn't.

Yeah, there are an awful lot of baloney cannons out there these days.
I feel for Jorden Peterson, he is an ethical man in the world of unethical media. he truly whats to help and is going about it honestly
albeit naivety.
