The Ground Hogs Shadow

Confused here, if he sees his shadow there will be more winter, no shadow early spring. Marmots are really greasy, I'll pass.
 

The largest groundhog celebration is held University of Texas at Irving. Groundhogs are Marmonts or large squirrels and in the hundreds of thousands in the western us. The appearance simply means varmint season is now open. Farmers invite hunters as the animals dig holes in the fields, ruin drainage system and chew up fences. Anyone getting bit by one should start a rabies series. Or if the mayor preferred he could now run around and bite all his enemies.

I forget at this moment, but, it just gives me something to have fun with this time of year knowing it doesn't make one bit of difference either way, especially now that it won't effect me one way other. I'm walking on sunshine, yeah, yeah. OOPS not meaning to make fun at the expense of others misery, I'm sure I'll have my turn in some other way if a Tornado ever hits this town, though unlikely. Says me.
 
Punxsutawney Phil did see his shadow yesterday. We "will" have 6 more weeks of winter.
 
The groundhog was chosen as a referee between different belief systems. One claiming a prediction relative to the equinox and another as the length of days overtook nite, sort of the same, but basically the same reason Christmas follows the soltice by 4 days. The event dates back to at least the Celts.
 
Well, only one more month and a few days until Daylight Savings Time happens. Will be glad to see it stay light longer and longer.

As far as Mr. Groundhog's prediction goes.........sure glad we don't live up North anymore!

Except when they get pulled out of your warm burrow in the dead of winter.

Here is a picture that I took of "Punxsutawney Phil" in 2010 at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show. Yes, he makes appearances. The groundhog is the one without the mustache and beard. I think the man holding him is the Grand Pooba or whatever his title of the Groundhog Club is.

Did you just make that up?! The Celts, doing the groundhog ritual? There were no groundhogs .
 
I don't see how he could have seen the shadow when the areas where they do these things were all gray due to the impending storm, especially at 7:30 in the morning.

Actually there were marmots, throughout Europe , but it was in reference to the celebration of the seasonal change, not whistle pigs solely. The rock chucks got thrown in at a later date to decide the issue
