Whoopi Goldberg Suspended From ‘The View’ for Holocaust Remarks

I remember hearing all sorts of antisemitic jokes as a kid growing up in NY, even from my "friends." In Texas people would say that I wasn't like most Jews, as if they were complementing me — that being Jewish was a bad thing. I had no idea what they were talking about, nor did I ask since at that time in my life, I didn't know much about the Jewish religion or heritage.

Obviously they thought most Jews were bad in some way and they used the word Jew as a pejorative. It wasn't my fault that I came from a screwed up family that wasn't conducive to me being successful. I was just a mechanic at the time, and the people I hung around with were all blue collar workers — not that there's anything wrong with blue collar work, but there's just not much money in it. I guess if they knew me now, they wouldn't say that I "wasn't like most Jews." :ROFLMAO:

Jews experience antisemitism from both sides. From the left it comes under the guise of being anti-apartheid, which is how they describe their contempt for the Israel-Palestinian problem. They support the "oppressed" Palestinians, who are primarily religious conservatives, and appose Israel, which is a liberal state. They often lie about the conflict, which almost always is the result of not having facts on one's side. That's what makes me think it's more disguised antisemitism than actual concern for the Palestinians.
About 20 years ago, I visited the campus of Stanford University, But that day, there was a huge demonstration going on, with all the passion that college students can muster up, against Israel and showing support for the Palestinians. The fact that none of these kids had an inkling of what they were talking about didn't slow them down at all.

At that time, there was a lot of that in this country. The liberal youth were being exploited to try to arouse American anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish feeling.

But I wouldn't call it antisemitism. After all, the "Palestinians" are also semitic. I'd call it anti-Jewish. Amazing how efficiently the extreme left was at finding their own way to have the same attitudes as the extreme right.

The extreme right backs Israel as they believe Israel is the key to the 2nd Coming.

Here's why I think Whoopi was suspended:
In this world of cancel culture it has to be shown cancel culture is equal in not just going against a Joe Rogan. With banning Whoopi we have a left wing black woman. That's three proofs that cancel culture is equal in who it cancels so the Right can't complain they're being picked on.

Equal opportunity of some twisted sort. "See? We pick on black left wing women too! Not just YOU!"

Here's a very interesting article on the subject from The Jerusalem Post. It addresses the question "Is Whoopi Jewish?" as well as a thankfully brief and simple discussion of what "Jewish" means in the first place.

Are Jews white? Is Whoopi Goldberg Jewish? ‘The View’ Holocaust controversy, explained - The Jerusalem Post (jpost.com)
This reminded me of something I read when I was a school kid.
Does anybody remember what those little "current events" newspapers were called that were frequently passed out to students?
Well, one issue had an article on this topic. Not surprisingly, Jewish students flinched when reading (exact quote here) "A Jew is anyone who says he is.' Even as 7th-graders, we thought it was a negative approach.

My Weekly Reader? Was that the name?

Technically, antisemitism is a means hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people. Anti-Semitism would be prejudice against any Semitic person.

The compound word Antisemitismus ('antisemitism') was first used in print in Germany in 1879 as a scientific-sounding term for Judenhass ('Jew-hatred'), and this has been its common use since then.

I read during the first of the Joe Rogan/Spotify thing that he's a Sanders supporter. How is Whoopi a 'left/right' balance there? ...Not that one is needed since the whole cancel culture thing is dangerously (literally) absurd and nothing can ever 'balance' the herded masses of polarized left and right.

I just picked Joe Rogan out of the air. I meant a controversial person more from the right than the left. And of course there is no balance! Tell that to ABC, etc.! Absurd is a great word.

Silly girl, that Whoopi! She probably thought that she had the freedom of speech which so many people treasure. Nada! She quickly learned that she should be a lot more careful in the views that she expresses.

It's a funny sort of world. If you say the "Proud Boys" are wonderful, then 1/2 of the population is really mad at you. If you say that the "Proud Boys" are a bunch of ignorant "you know what" then the other 1/2 of the population is really mad at you. It looks to me that ole' Abe Lincoln was right when he said, "You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time." At least I hope said that because that is pretty smart thinking.

I've seen the clip. I don't think she holds any malice in her heart. Are Jews a race? A religion? An ethnic group? People argue about these things all the time. She wasn't denying the Holocaust in any way. The Germans also hated blacks, Gypsies, Slavs and other non-Aryans.

Of course, I don't have an inkling of what was in Woopi's mind. But I think what she was trying to say is the holocaust was not a "racial" crime, IF you take "race" as "White vs.Black". If you are Black, Jews would be considered as White. Therefore it was White on White.

Not necessarily. Ethiopian Jews are Black.

Something I'll never forget-

I happened to catch Whoopi on The View during that last presidential campaign.

I don't recall who the guest was, but Whoopi stated she wished Dr. Jill Biden could be our Surgeon General as said she thought Biden was a "wonderful doctor". She asked the guest whether they agreed Jill Biden was indeed, a "wonderful doctor".

The guest told her Jill Biden was a doctor of English...which caused Whoopi to frantically sift through her papers. The subject was changed.

I saw that @StarSong!
Even if Whoopi had been right, it would have been nepotism, something I've had enough of with de Blasio.
Yes, it was an embarrassing moment! :D

Humans are hardwired toward tribalism, and social evolution is a painfully slow process. It would be nice if it were otherwise, but alas, there is a reason enlightenment is not easily achieved. You have to look outside of your comfort zone to really see, and far to many are way too comfortable cloaked in their ignorance. Mike

@Pepper, that was my dear friend @RadishRose's post, but I'll weigh in here nevertheless.

To me, The View and other round table "news" or talk shows are little more than a modern day group of women hanging out wash and yakking to each other, men standing around kicking the gravel (love that expression, @Liberty, and this is the perfect time to use it), mixed company at a cocktail party, or some narcissistic mouthpiece who feels compelled to broadcast his/her opinion of the world despite having very few credentials, little in-depth understanding of the issues, and almost no willingness to consider new information that might change his/her opinion.

Why anyone not immediately involved in the conversation would tune into a bunch of non-experts BSing about the news is beyond my understanding.

Why anyone would take what's said seriously is even harder for me to understand.

Same thing with most of the podcasts, such as Joe Rogan. As far as I know, he's not an expert in anything other than the ability to B.S. on a wide range of topics. Maybe I'm wrong. Let me check his Wikipedia page... Okay, he's an expert on taekwondo and maybe professional wrestling. He took a few classes at the University of Massachusetts, but that's the extent of his higher education. And he's supposedly a professional comedian, but I've never heard him say anything even remotely funny. Granted, I've only seen little bits and pieces of his show. Personally, I don't like to watch people sit around and talk unless they're really interesting or funny, and he is neither.

For a while many years ago I was listening to the View host chat while making dinner. When I heard myself yelling at the TV as any of them spouted non facts, I turned it off.
