Saudi Arabia executed 81 people on Saturday convicted of crimes ranging from killings to belonging to militant groups. It's the largest known mass execution carried out in the kingdom in its modern history.

Wow! I wonder if this is coming to Canada in the near future as the new immigrants "demand" their rights?

Also, it is important to remember that China executes far more people. Conservative estimates run to approx 2,500 per annum, quite a drop from twentieth century figures. As far as I am aware, no immigrants from mainland China have been clamouring for Canada to follow suit.
A Chinese state-run poll voted Canada as last year's worst country in the world. Guess they're still mad about the Huawei executive's arrest.

yes I read that today....

Saudi Arabia has executed 81 men over the past 24 hours, including seven Yemenis and one Syrian national, on charges including “allegiance to foreign terrorist organisations” and holding “deviant beliefs”, state news agency Saudi Press Agency said, in the largest known mass execution carried out in the kingdom in its modern history.

The number dwarfed the 67 executions reported in the kingdom in 2021 and the 27 in 2020.

“These individuals … were convicted of various crimes including murdering innocent men, women and children,” SPA said on Saturday, citing a statement from the interior ministry.

“Crimes committed by these individuals also include pledging allegiance to foreign terrorist organisations, such as ISIS [ISIL], al-Qaeda and the Houthis,” it added.

Well don't shoot me, but if these people were horrible criminals who would have been given the death penalty anyway..best they just get it over with quickly rather than have the tax payer, keep them for 20 years on death row.. as they would in some states in the US

The world has a drastic, unexpected shortage of oil. SA has oil so they have us by the short hairs and can do whatever they hell they want. With WWIII threatening, masks are going to come off of a lot of people who've had to put up an acceptable front for the West.

Beheading is a punishment from the dinosaur days, so barbaric.
The French invented the guillotine as a form of beheading so that the victim felt nothing. Prior to that, beheading was done with an axe and often failed to behead with one or more blows.

Saudi Arabia has a criminal justice system based on a form of Shari'ah reflecting a particular state-sanctioned interpretation of Islam. Execution is carried out by beheading with a ceremonial sword. Whilst the sword is extremely sharp, it's rare that a single blow will complete the execution.

Ali al-Nimr was a seventeen-year-old Saudi Arabian high school student when he was arrested in 2012 for allegedly taking part in protests, which were calling for social and political reform in the country’s Qatif province. At his trial two years later, he was convicted of multiple charges, including belonging to a terror cell, attacking police with Molotov cocktails, incitement, and stoking sectarianism. He remained incarcerated during this entire process, but this was not the only penalty. His ultimate penalty was decapitation, after which his headless body was strung up in a public crucifixion.

The Saudi justice system is corrupt and unbelievably cruel especially to women.

yes I agree, but in this instance it was 81 male convicted criminals

Only the men are newsworthy. Guess a woman who betrayed a powerful man or who is allied to a powerful enemy might make the news but the ordinary women who violate Sharia law don't. Oops... Edited to add we do read about women trying to flee Saudia Arabia who are captured in airports around the world and sent back ...don't hear much follow-up on their health and well being back home.

I've seen studies (can't find any online) which looked into whether the brain feels pain after the head gets cleanly cut off and they say that it does for a short period of time. One study on rats says their brains still functioned for about two and a half seconds and it is considered a humane way of killing for animals.

I think I saw a documentary about that. Poor women made it out but got tracked down and sent back not long after.

Thailand is one country I know for sure that has always fully cooperated with the UAE to bring these escapees back, no questions asked, unless someone manages to make a big enough fuss.

These are such dangerous times. Everyone with opinions can be considered a terrorist and Saudi A is sitting on fountains of oil while the rest of us go cold and hungry. So they can get away with anything and no one will say a thing against it. I don't know how America has come to such a low point. When I was a child we were energy sufficient in this country and fuel cost so little.

I'm guessing the cause is greed at the top. And (imo) it's the type of greed and the extent of it that causes societies to collapse. I believe that's the inevitable outcome if nothing changes soon. People do survive societal collapses, though....common people do.

Barbaric for sure. I ditto what @Pecos replied. This report of beheadings me an article I read recently about beheadings in Europe. It wasn't as comprehensive as the one linked below but I do remember reading that the beheadings were a public spectacle...people actually gathered to watch as if they were entertainment! I believe that may be been in France, probably other places too. Beheadings took place in many countries and often it was for minor crimes. "While not as terrifying as some of the worst methods of execution ever devised, beheading is fast and certain. It’s also efficient. As European nations grew in power, and as they sought to exert that power down to the street level in every town they controlled, beheading for even very minor crimes became routine." This article mentions that Aristocrats sentenced to death would get a more merciful beheading than regular folks. How considerate of their executioners! 😱

I hope and do believe you are correct.
I wholeheartedly believe we would take to the streets in a nationwide, multigenerational, multicultural display of outrage if any gov‘t seriously attempted to ram such heinous barbarity

down our throats. I would be protesting with them. Let the media record scads of elders being arrested for civil disobedience, and see how that creates havoc for the gov‘t.

We may not be the best country in the world but I dispute that we are the worse! I wonder who did that survey and I wonder what the questions were? The worse country they say? I have to smile! We are the worse in the world, then I guess that life in Russia is better? Is life in the Congo better? How about living and working in Afghanstan? I think that state run poll is just full of bull! We may not be the greatest country in the world but I have lived here all my life and traveled the world and I can truthfully say, I am not planning to move anywhere because the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence!
