Why is everything a "crisis"?

If you still watch mainstream media news or engage in social media platforms you'll see the word "crisis" a lot. No one just ever has a tricky day anymore. It's got to be an apocalyptic event and this is just not so and we know it so why do so many keep falling for it? Honestly, if I never hear the word "crisis" again, I'll be a much happier person.

Thoughts?

Back in the 70s a TV journalist and news reporter named Christine Chubbuck was given her own 10 or 15-minute slot to do editorials and discussions with people in the news. Several years later she was really angry about being forced to report the news using more and more sensational language and about the producers ignoring important stories because they weren't gory enough.

So, one evening, after delivering the news, she gave an editorial about that, and then she said, "You want blood and guts? Well, here it is" and she shot herself in the head.

The problem is that when we believe the facts about a certain thing we find out other facts that we believe are true and so on. Some of those facts ARE true. With mass media the number of people that join the bandwagons has exploded. We are surrounded by hostile opinions every where we turn. ooops that sounds like a crisis too. :)

I guess my brain must skip the word "crisis" as I am on social media (facebook, twitter) and I read the paper every day but I can't remember coming across the word very much. Maybe my head is in the sand?

Yes maybe, but when your life is in "crisis" as much as mine seems to be right now, (sounds melodramatic hey! :) ), its hard for me to be critical, though I admit to limiting my exposure to the news quite a lot just now!

Great responses. Do you agree that overuse of the word crisis will eventually cause people to stop responding and one day a valid crisis may crop up and people may not pay attention as they should because they have become numb to it all.
Maybe not, but I can remember wars that were called wars, not a crisis in wherever. It seems every event is now a crisis of something or other. 🙄
