Yes, two very cold days here in what is suppose to be "winter warm" Florida. And, as far as the winter in the north, that's the way it's suppose to be up there!

I lived in Jax Florida from 1960-64 and I remember seeing snow flurries coming down once. But sadly for us kids it didn't stick to the ground. We missed snow. But then we were kids and couldn't drive yet!
 
In December of '89, Jacksonville was expecting a quarter inch or so of snow, so we took my niece (who had been born in Florida and had never seen snow) up to see this wondrous miracle. Everything had shut down. The bridges were closed, they even closed I-95 for a few hours. We pulled into a parking lot and managed to scrape enough snow off the pavement to make snowballs (it took a while....). She was highly impressed and thought we were the absolutely best aunt and uncle in the world!

We moved to Florida from Michigan where two-three feet of snow was ABSOLUTE.NO.EXCUSE for missing work, so we thought this was a hoot! When we got home to Orlando about 8:00 p.m. that night, there were a few snowflakes wafting down. I think they melted before they even hit the ground....

I am so glad I don't have to shovel heat and humidity out of my driveway!
 
But a lot of Canadians spend some portion or all of the winter in Florida--they should not be allowed to!
 
Actually, it's 6 months, 7 months in some cases. :) Not just for health coverage reasons either, US customs rule that I don't understand, maybe taxation? Many Canadians own homes in US and go back and forth. Why should they not be allowed to?
 
Because they should suffer with Americans who can't go for one reason or another and, besides, they are furriners gloaming on to the American good life...

Ahh, Misery loves company LOL :) I know, it's been a tough winter, we don't usually get it this cold either. Americans go south in winter too. And don't you appreciate all the money we Canadians spend in your country? :D

You can lose your health coverage by being gone too long? We were gone from the UK for 2 years and it didn't affect ours. My husband who is British only can't stay in the US more than 6 months I think. That's okay, doubt we'd ever stay more than 3 if we ever do an extended west/southwest trip.

We went to Florida in the winter for 1 -2 weeks back in 2002-2004. We loved the kayaking, the beaches, the weather. We were actually looking at spending a month or two there in the winter, then we discovered Thailand by being invited to a niece's wedding. That did it for us. Don't think we'll ever spend a winter in Florida. Did a quick google to compare the costs of staying in Florida vs where we stay in Thailand. Monthly rental - 4 x more in Florida. Car rental more than 4 x more in Florida. Meals are much more expensive in Florida. Airfare is a wee bit more expensive to go to Thailand, but not much.
