Power of the Mind

Two weeks ago I was following the shingles thread, but it made me feel quite antsy, for want of a better word, I had to actually stop reading it. That being said I've had shingles. About 15mins later I felt itchy and when I looked found a red rash that was gone by the next day.
Then last week while talking to a friend she mentioned having problems, maybe an eyelash in her eye. We discussed what she should do to rectify the situation. Would you believe, a few hours later my eye was driving me crazy. I looked and looked but could not see a problem. When I woke up my eye was still bothering me but it went away a few hours later.
How mad is that.🙃

It is called 'suggestibilty', fairly common. Not everyone fully aware of the connection between exposure to idea of a discomfort and feeling something similar.

My daughter is highly suggestible, i was moderately so till i learned to meditate and took charge of my.mind/body connection.

It happens to me too.... I keep thinking I must be a Hypochondriac.. imagining having illnesses I don't have...

Yep - someone yawns, I yawn. Someone barfs, I barf. Someone itches, I itch. Perhaps I should have learned to be less empathetic!
Part of why i learned to meditate was with an eye to exercising some control over my empathic episodes. Because even tho i could be calm in a crisis, the waves of others' emotions would hit me after it was all over.

I also think the mind is more powerful than we know.
On Sunday (4-24-22) I took food to a friend who was recovering from Covid. She's an active 78 & was really going crazy cooped up in the house for 5 days, with visitors afraid to come to her house (understandably).
When I arrived, she asked me if I wanted to come in. I said "Sure." We had lunch & chatted for a couple of hours, then we went outside & had a short walk (she still tires easily).
That evening, I had a headache & sore throat for a couple of hours, then both went away. Psychological?

Psychological? Most likely. If the symptoms fade that quickly. If persist, talk to your Doc.

And kudos to you for taking food to your friend.

I like the Lincoln quote: "A man is about as happy as he makes up his mind to be."

I know that they have done some more weird experiments. I know that they can hook some kind of monitor up to your thumb, say and if you think about your thumb, they can tell the different between that, and if you don't think about your thumb.

So, if you think about a body part, you are actually sending a tiny bit of electricity to it.

You must have strong ,powerful thoughts. This is wonderful! Think of the good you can do in the world by sending thoughts of love out into the atmosphere!

Hypnosis is a way to experiment with suggestibility. The subconscious mind can be "programmed" to hate the taste of cigarettes for example. I have watched quite a few experiments with this type of therapy, and have watched many hypnotist's perform. I can not make up my mind, but lean towards these people are really hypnotized....here is an example. Do you think you can be hypnotized?

My sympathies, Robinwren, and I hope you are not a doctor! 😁

This happens to me whenever I hear anyone cough, even if it's an actor "coughing" on TV. I immediately have to cough also.

I like Michio Kaku. Some great videos of his on You Tube...

Michio Kaku: The Metaphysics of Teleportation

Kaku-San is one of my favorite scientists, has been for years like Neil DeGrasse Tyson. More recently (maybe 5 yrs ago) learned of British scientist Brian Cox who I rather like too.

Not that i agree with them about everything, especially when they venture outside their area of expertise. But i like the way their minds work. NDT could have been a comedian if astrophysics hadn't called to him.

This is why the essential thing to know about neuroplasticity and how the brain works is "Neurons that fire together, wire together." Knowing this is can help us disengage the bad wiring for bad habits and build connections to establish and maintain good ones.

I do not think that I am highly suggestible, but then who knows!! I have health issues that friends roll their eyes at😄 Thank you all for your responses.

Maybe we're all a bit paranoid when it comes to possible health threats too(?).
I am a sanitizing freak, so maybe! I was the only one wearing a mask at the voting place today. Someone here mentioned that if we think about our thumb, an electrical current passes from brain to thumb. I have to admit that some of my symptoms were definitely brought on this way. Interesting stuff, eh? I'm Googling "neuroplasticity" per Feywon's suggestion above.

Okay - it may sound strange, but I've been fascinated watching my dog pee and poo. She has an outdoor pad she aims at and moves around it, leaving bits and pieces and pools covering it in random patterns. The fact that she has FOUR legs and can repeatedly circle these deposits without EVER putting a paw in a mess (all while scoping the yard, not her feet) really amazed me. So, Googling, I found this: Proprioception describes the awareness of posture, movement, and changes in equilibrium and the knowledge of position, weight, and resistance of objects in relation to the body. Kinesthesia refers to the ability to perceive the extent, direction, or weight of movement. People are supposed to have this "sixth sense" as well. One thing is certain - my dog is far more coordinated than me!
