America's Fattest Cities... Houston TX

There is no bigger lie & there is nothing more phony than a seriously-obese person saying "I'm OK with size" or "I'm proud of myself, or
"I'm comfortable the way I am."
The heavier they are, the harder they work to convince themselves of that lie.
That lie is a fat person's way of avoiding dealing with the problem, which takes work & determination & LOTS of stubbornness.
A young person who can't walk, can't bathe, can't go to the bathroom without help, can't live without a nurse is miserable - not the least bit comfortable.
And, No, I NEVER told any of those lies to myself or others at my previous weight 45 years ago (405 lbs.) In fact, I went to bed every night, hoping I didn't wake up the next morning.

We are all overcoming something throughout life. My dad told me that once when I was complaining. Regardless, we all need each other for comfort during the process.

:(

My youngest son, Liam, is a big guy; 6'2" and about 290lbs. He weighed well over 400 when he was in his late 20s, and he was miserable. He quit drinking soda-pop and eating fried food and dropped the first 100lbs within a year. He's still a big guy, he just is, but he's physically active, stays away from soda and unhealthy food, has kept off the 150-some pounds, and is way happier. (he's also exceptionally strong.)

Sure glad you got yourself in good shape, Win.

The biggest lady (Diane) in the video.. I have never seen anyone that big in real life ( only on American TV shows 600 pound teens etc).. until yesterday. I was in the shop, and she was walking bent over the trolley ( cart).. with her husband fetching all the different items from the fridges..

He was tall and slim, and I kept thinking he might be a feeder.. . She was enormous, as wide as she was tall. which was about 5'8''.. and when she walked in the aisle no-one could get passed so we had to wait until she moved on.. I thought she must be very embarrassed,.. but then maybe not..

All that said.. it has recently been reported that the UK is the fattest nation in Europe.. more Obesity and Diabetes here than anywhere else in Europe.. I can believe it. Not very many seriously obese people around here.. but there are areas in the Uk where the people are very obese, they tend mostly to be in so called deprived areas

Absolutely, very well put!

Like you I have been there, and know from personal experience.

Being ok with a few pounds over weight is fine, I think we get too hung up on that.

However, the truly morbidly obese shouldn't be ok with it, and when being honest I don't think they do.

This heading was here earlier this morning, but I didn't notice it on the site when I signed in again. The same thing happened with another heading a few days ago. Are some of the headings taken down, or moved to another location?

No..nothing is moved unless it breaks rules... if you've posted last on a thread then you may not see it when you click on '' what's new'' at the top of the page... and might not see it again until someone else posts on it..

Okay, thanks. The same thing seemed to happen a couple of days ago, and I've never seen that heading again.

That is pretty bad, and sad.

.... I wonder, since that video is from 2019, if a lot of those people have died during the pandemic.
Covid hasn't been kind to obese and generally unhealthy people in the past two years.
that's very true... some may be dead.. and some may have caught Covid and realised they have to change their lifestyle if they wish to keep living a healthy life..

Gluttony is not only unhealthy, its one of the 7 deadly sins. And think of the starving children they could have fed instead.
I was watching that guy who eats for prizes.. and on a normal day it's incredible what he eats...He eats so much at an all you can eat restaurant that he's been banned from 2 of them..

In front of the Camera he ate a 32 oz steak with fries and bread in 24 minutes.. and that wasn't even in a contest
but it was just because he could get it for free.. OMG.. what part of him doesn't understand that he'll soon be unable to get out to restaurantsa and take outs , if he continues like that.. Jeez!!

40% of the U.S. population is substantially overweight, and that includes people of all ages. Obesity is the root cause of at least 1/3 of the nations health care problems and costs. It doesn't matter what city or town you go to....this condition exists all across the nation. There are a few...very few....who have a health problem, thyroid issues, etc., which affect their metabolism....but the vast majority are overweight due to poor eating habits, and lack of exercise.

I would like to see a hefty "surcharge" placed upon the health insurance for those who are overweight....much like that which smokers have to pay. Perhaps if they saw their health care costs rising, some of them might reconsider their habits.

There is nothing more disgusting, IMO, than seeing someone at the stores, etc., waddling around, looking like a beached walrus.

I know there are some people on this forum who really dislike fat people. There is a new show I saw advertised about a beauty salon catering to big woman. I don't like things like this. I don't want anyone harassed, abused or berated over their weight but it shouldn't be celebrated either. No matter their size, people should have the ability to look their best.

I still remember the woman from an episode of My 600 Pound Life. She described her abusive childhood as a "constant state of panic" Her father was a very abusive alcoholic. She further said the only calm she had was going into the kitchen late at night to eat. I don't know how anyone expected this woman to survive such a childhood 100% intact. Had she turned to drugs later when she could access them, she would have received sympathy. But as a child all she had was that food. She's permanently damaged. Even if she lost the weight, like an alcoholic, the risk can still be there. And you can't survive without food.

There can be some really dirty stuff behind people with weight issues.

I applaud that, apparently, your life has been sufficiently free of trauma that you have been able to avoid developing an eating disorder. Many have been less fortunate. As for the comments relating to appearance, this is fat shaming, pure and simple. One final thought. In the real world, fat shaming kills.

My MIL & SIL were both ‘big women’ - their term. They would wear work clothes around the house; when they went out even if to just the grocery store, they were always immaculate.

I just realized the only store that I’ve seen that provides motorized grocery carts is Walmart.

My supermarkets all have the motorized carts. We don't have Walmart in NYC.

Like smokers, obese people drive up the cost of health care insurance for EVERYONE. They are more prone to issues like heart problems, bone and joint problems and diabetes, just to name a few. Yes, people resent being made to pay more because of it. And its fact only a small percentage of them have any actual issues that can't be dealt with that contribute to the weight gain.
