FCC orders carriers to stop delivering auto warranty robocalls.

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday announced it has told carriers to stop delivering auto warranty robocalls, citing it as a top complaint from consumers.

The FCC said it has authorized all U.S.-based voice service providers to stop carrying traffic from Roy Cox Jr., Aaron Michael Jones, their Sumco Panama companies and other international associates believed to be behind the more than 8 billion robocalls generated since 2018.

Thank the Maker (from “Star Wars). It’s about time. I keep getting calls about cars we owned years ago.

Thank you, FCC.

U.S. based callers are just a fraction of the spam calls we receive. Most of the time, I just let these calls go to my call blocker, but I sometimes answer them, and invariably the caller sounds like they are calling from India. They want me to get a plastic SS card, or they want to reduce my debt (I have none), student loans, etc, etc. I have mastered their accent, and I can sometimes lead them on for a couple of minutes before they realize that I am playing with them.

Just today, I got up @ about 7:00 am ........ Since then I have received three calls [humans] wanting to buy my house ..... I don't let them talk long enough to hear the "pitch" . Some of them are the Tom Selleck type where you get the money, and then supposedly you stay in the house, etc & so-on.

I probably receive , on average two of those p/day ....... drives ya nuts.

Besides, those warranty calls, when I get a new car, it comes with a 3-month free trial of "Sirius Radio" (some kind of subscription radio). Then they start sending bills.
With my last car, I ignored the bills, then they called me after 6 months, angrily demanding payment.
After I was finished laughing, I asked them to show me where I ordered Sirius Radio.
"Well, you didn't cancel your subscription, so you've been using it."
"I've been using it? When were you a passenger in my car? If I didn't order something, I don't have to cancel it. Do I need to tell you what you can do with those bills?"
"Well, that's not very nice."
"I'm not nice to scam artists. 'Bye."

Stopping auto warranty robocalls is a good step forward. Now they need to take similar actions against the myriad of other robocalls and scams I get by phone daily. “Medicare Assist” calls are a current tsunami. My call blocker is kept very busy despite the fact I’m on every major “do not call” list… 📞 😡

How'bout the Fed just outlaw all solicitations period ? Do something directly for the people.

If I want to buy anything , I know where to go to look for it ...... I do not need it looking for me.
Yes, please! There's one energy company in particular that calls me several times per week, sometimes three times a day. It's maddening.

I'm on the "Do Not Call" registry and have been for many years, for as much good as it does. I've called a number of companies directly, some several times, and asked them to put me on their "Do Not Call" list. They always say they do, and it might take a couple of weeks for the calls to stop. Heh, the calls never stop. I've told them that there is no chance in hell that I'll ever use their service, so the only reason for the continuing calls must be to harass me. Nothing stops these people.

I have blocked many numbers, but the same companies keep calling from different numbers. I often shut off voice mail so they can't even leave a message. It doesn't matter, they just keep calling and calling and calling...

For months, I've been reporting these calls to the FTC website. It doesn't do any good. At least they seem to have done something about the "warranty" robocalls. We'll see how that goes.

Report unwanted and scam calls to the Federal Trade Commission here: https://www.donotcall.gov/report.html

From the website:
  • Do Not Call: After your number is on the registry for 31 days, you can report unwanted sales calls.
  • Robocalls: Report calls that use a recorded message instead of a live person (whether or not your number is on the Registry).
  • Tell us what the call was about: Check the category that best describes what the call was about, for example debt reduction, home security or vacations.
Reminder: Even if your number is registered, some organizations may still call you, such as charities, political organizations, and telephone surveyors. For a full description of who may still call you, please consult our Consumer FAQs.

Debt collectors may continue to call you whether your number is on the Registry or not. Know your rights regarding debt collection. If a debt collector is not respecting your rights, REPORT IT HERE.
