Obit of someone I know

But not really well. I was surprised to see his obit in the paper. He was a fellow home delivered meals driver on the same route I worked before my eye surgery. When I went back to work in April, I rode with him when he delivered so I could familiarize myself with the route. He didn't seem sick or troubled then, but that was a little over 3 months ago. A lot can happen. It didn't disclose the cause in the obit, but he was only 79.
 

Death can happen quickly. I had a friend that last year he went to the doctor on a Friday and the doc sent him for blood work. On Monday, he received a call from the doc’s office telling him that he had Lymphoma and to get to the hospital immediately and they will call the hospital and make the arrangements for him. On the Friday of that week, he died.
 
For me it usually is a bit of a shock when I hear someone has died "before" their time. I have known several people who have gone on, and some very well. We will have an obit for Ivanka soon. Shocked again.

Well ...... IMO he did it the right way ....... no languishing in misery.
 
The viewing hours were 5 to 8 pm last evening. I thought I'd wait an hour for the crowd to thin out (there always seems to be a rush at the start of these things). I arrived a little after 6 pm and the line was snaked around the inside of the church and out the door. It took me about 45 minutes to get through. Apparently this man was involved in just about every civic organization around here and had a huge circle of friends and acquaintances. There were police and fireman present. On the way out there was an exhibit of his medals, belt buckles and other awards on display. I didn't even look at the body. I like to remember people when they were alive. I don't know why we put our deceased on display. I have in my letter of instruction to have a "direct burial". I don't want people gawking at me. If the family want to have a "celebration of life" memorial service afterwards, more power to them.
