Another mass shooting ..

It is a horrible thing for anyone to be caught in that type of situation. I am for gun control but not against those who own them for hunting or protection and are properly trained.

Amen, Sunny. Not only that, I would consider emigrating to New Zealand.
 
Earlier this year Indiana passed two new laws: The "open carry/2nd amendment, permitless carry" law and one which disallowed trans women to compete with real women. Our governor vetoed the trans woman athlete law and did not veto the open carry law. I disagreed with both of his decisions. Thank God he did not veto the open carry law. The "Good Samaritan" did not have a permit. He was carrying a weapon because as of July 1 he is permitted to. Had that law been vetoed I am sure that the "Good Samaritan" would have been unarmed and possibly a victim himself along with many others.
 
There is a question that keeps niggling at me. Why are all mass shootings overwhelmingly perpetrated by males? Where are the disgruntled women and girls with a grudge on society who take it out on strangers? Perhaps the cause is staring us in the face and if it is, does it point to a possible solution?
Is it something to do with the Y chromosome?

I know this sound like a silly question but still it haunts my mind.
Has any research been done on the DNA of the perps versus the DNA of other men?

We don't as a whole. That said, you can purchase a fully automatic weapon if you cover all these bases.

First, you need to live in a state that permits private ownership of machine guns. All but 8 states do.

Secondly, you need to ensure you are wealthy. The cheapest full-auto machine pistol you might find will run you between $7000 and $10,000 for a MAC10 type. Fully automatic M16 rifles will run you around $25,000 or higher.

Third, you need to find a seller who will transfer to you, and a licensed transferor. Most FFLs can transfer full auto but do not.

Fourth, you will need to fill out the proper paperwork before you can transfer. The ATF has several forms and the only one a non-LEO or dealer can use is the Form 4. You must prepare the Form 4, and submit it with fingerprints and the fee. The Form 4 requires other things as well, such as providing notice to your local law enforcement and (if required) registration with your state/county.

Fifth, wait. Once you file the Form 4, you must wait. The ATF will process your application to transfer by checking both you and the current owner’s background and current licensing, and the dealer’s licensing.

Sixth, assuming all went well, the dealer may transfer it to you. You will receive a certificate with a tax stamp from ATF that is associated with the specific item you’re buying.

And by the way....... The AR in "AR-15" rifle stands for ArmaLite rifle, after the company that developed it in. the 1950s. "AR" does NOT stand for "assault rifle" or "automatic rifle."

I saw a study it's not DNA, it brain patterns & waves that set these guys apart.
 
I carry most times when I leave the house. It’s like leaving my cellphone at home. I sometimes have to turn around and go back to get it if I’m not too far away.

Yes it is almost always a young male, and I suspect most of them are "incels". Can't get a girl friend. Maybe all they need to change their outlook is a little, uh, "attention" from a female companion. I dunno.

Think they are in the hunting rifle or home defense business? More to it than that, much more. For some, guns can be a hobby -- an unhealthy (at least in my opinion) fascination. So, I'd take it a step further, don't just outlaw assault rifles, outlaw semi-automatics. Don't agree? That's your right, but I expect it wouldn't be difficult to sell a majority of voters on the concept.

That supports the theory that most of these shooters are incels.

Trick question.... The top one holds 18 22 cal rounds and is semi automatic. The bottom one is a 1936 rifle that is also semi automatic and holds 17 rounds and was the first rifle I ever owned and fired. With that gun, I was taught firearm safety that I have now passed on to both my children and grand children. Knee jerk reaction to scary black guns is exactly that... Knee jerk.

Thinking about this a bit more...

I still don't understand why young US men are doing this when it is extremely rare in other countries.

I understand terrorism of the Twin Towers variety because it is politically motivated as action against an enemy. What I don't understand is random massacres in one's own country against soft targets, including the most heinous of all, against children.

I am truly baffled as to the cause of it all.

I understand the recent massacre in New Guinea because it is an example of tribal payback, which is built into the culture but walking into a mall or a school with no other motive other than to kill as many people as possible is totally beyond my ken. And I don't understand how US culture seems to breed these events.

How exactly does the bottom one hold 17 rounds? Does it use a magazine?

And the top one fires 22 long bullets, which are nowhere near as deadly as what an AR-15 rifle fires.

Both fire 22 long rifles. Twist the end of the tube under the barrel and insert shells (17). Re-insert tube and you're good to go.
