His surname is Asian of Far Eastern origins, usually Chinese, Korean, or Taiwanese. And his appearance indicates Asian. Not that there's anything wrong with that. He's just not White.
see.. altho' technically we're told Orientals are yellow.. I don't think of them as other than white.. .. is it just me then ?

This black and white business has been going on for years now. Although the outcome of this combo makes beauties, will some sensible people work around their animosities and stop calling each other kindly by their skin color. Ultimately, the blood in our veins is simply what its supposed to be.

In all fairness to the author, race may have been mentioned because of the disproportionate number of US police officers killed by Blacks who comprise roughly 13% of the US population and 41% of the killers of police officers.

“From 1980 to 2013, there were 2,269 officers killed in felonious incidents, and 2,896 offenders. The racial breakdown of offenders over the 33-year period was on par with the 10-year period: 52 percent were white, and 41 percent were black.”

Possibly. But I doubt it.

That's all that is said. People of color meaning all people not White Americans. I hear this on the news, local & national, all the time.
not white Americans..?..well I'm sure they'd be very happy to know they're not White Americans..

Take Spain or Turkey or Greece for example.. the skin of the people there vary from very pale, to very tanned.. depending on the their ancestry.. and or their job, many work out in the heat of the sun for decades.. who would describe them as anything but white ?.. yet by and large many of them are much darker skinned than Oriental Asians

All the labels are cumbersome, and sometimes not totally accurate. I am comfortable with the following statement:

"Current scientific consensus

These categorizations are for purposes other than determining skin "color".

This is all too silly for me.
I agree.. I cannot believe the murder of a policeman has descended into what his colour is ...poor man.. not for a minute could he have possibly imagined he would be the subject of this discussion on an internet forum.. May he R.I.P.. and I'm out of this thread..

Technically, there are only three races: Caucasian, Oriental, and *****id. We often refer to them as White, Asian, and Black, respectively, which may not be accurate when it comes to Asians, who can be White depending on what part of Asia they're in.

I thought we were having a civil, informative non-confrontational discussion...oh well, maybe it's just me that's delirious, the weather is beautiful, sunny but cool(for a frekin change!) and I'm in a perfect mood, where absolutely nothing can piss me off, despite having had going on 4 cups of coffee today...

Unless race was a contributing factor to these shootings, I think mentioning the race of either man was unnecessary and can only stir up trouble. I suspect the reason for mentioning it at all was that this was supposed to be an "answer" of some sort to the outrage about all the shootings of black people by white cops. Like one nut case running around shooting people is enough to make up for centuries of lynching, shooting, torture, etc. by whites against blacks. ("See? The Blacks aren't such angels either.")

True enough, but that still pegs him as a target of racial hatred.

“San Francisco's hidden truth is out. That's what community organizer Carol Mo calls the realization that Asian residents are being targeted for robberies, burglaries and intimidation by young black men.”

Probably (by some standards) racist for me to say this, but the US Asian community’s median household income exceeds that of any other race, and their crime rate is lower. Good for them, and for their fellow citizens.

We were, I just thought it was silly after awhile. :)
