Russia/Ukraine, and The U.S./Europe

My Dil is from Poland and her family is there. We are glad that they joined NATO otherwise Putin would be going after them next. It would be extremely difficult to assassinate him because he goes to extreme measures in regard to his security.
 
Russian soldiers are retreating or surrendering. Resupply lines have been decimated by the Ukraine troops. The pathetic performance of the Russian military has Putin's job... and even life... in question. I feel pretty sure he won't use nuclear weapons. The Kremlin would melt before the world's eyes. I do worry, as a last resort, Putin will use nerve agents. He allegedly did in Syria. He knows, though, the world would retaliate because he has seen how the global clime favors Ukraine.

Seven Russian oligarchs have "accidently fallen out of multistory windows and shot themselves on the way down" within the past few weeks. At least some of those have dared speak negatively of Putin's agenda in Ukraine. He's trying to quiet the naysayers. In today's world, it ain't happening.

By our midterm elections, Putin will no longer be the Russian leader. He will be replaced by someone the Kremlin feels can rebuild the Russian military to what it was supposed to have been. For the next couple decades, at least, Russia will steer clear of their efforts to return to what the USSR was.

Yes, I listened to a report yesterday saying aprox. the same thing. This some startling news. It has me concerned that an unexpected "attack" from the Russians that might start WWIII. China will not stand by and watch the the Ukraine fall to the US and NATO allies. Will they attack Taiwan to stop the NATO aggression in the Ukraine? It is a possibility and there goes the whole shootin' match. The next couple of weeks are going to tell us a lot about the international war games.

China would not sell weapons to Russia. Russia had to go to North Korea to buy weapons needed to replace those captured or destroyed by the Ukrainians. Ukraine isn't "falling to the US and NATO allies". There is NOT NATO aggression. The Ukraine people are fighting to the death to defend their freedom the Russians are trying to take away. The US and NATO allies believed Putin when he said he wanted to resurrect the USSR. He had every intention of marching through Ukraine and Poland. I certainly applaud the US and NATO allies for standing up against Russian aggression. Most of the world is standing with Ukraine and NATO vs Russia. European countries stood up strong in their support of Ukraine, even though many of the sanctions have made life harder for those in Europe.

Why anyone would stand with Russia against Ukraine is unbelievable! But, a number of US politicians and media commentators are. Could those same people who support Russia over Ukraine freedom perhaps be those who would champion the demise of democracy in the US?

You seem to contradict yourself saying there is no collusion with the US and NATO. Ukrainian troops are being trained in other countries with modern military equipment provided by billions of dollars from the military industrial complex. ( the only product America has to keep it half way afloat.) Instead of diplomacy we have trained and backed the war to defeat Russia. Let's see what happens when the Bear is cornered and decides to attack.

If the news reports are accurate, the performance of the Russian military is pathetic. If the Russian people have access to these reports (which is doubtful), they would probably demand that Putin be removed from power. I just hope that there are measures in the Russian govt./military to prevent him from pushing the "nuclear" button.

From most news I read lately Russia was winning control of their objectives. It was in US news all over. Not until the Sept. offensive by Ukraine did things change. It is also likely that the Russians will refortify the northern front and the battle will intensify.

Body bags have been inundating Russia...their boys coming back home, and there is more and more blow back now. The day the big retreat and death count hit Russia, Putin had a propaganda festival with fireworks celebrating. A recent Russian journalist said many "deputies" were calling out for Putin to be replaced. Petitions being signed. Putin is said to be now calling for a "draft"...talk about irony.

Looks like a chess match. The Russians are not stupid. Western television news supports the war profits of both the military industry and the politicians bank accounts. A harsh winter is arriving soon. Time to choose defensive positions for the next 6 months.
 
This is getting real serious...he just drafted 300,000 Russian young men to fight his insane war. He is claiming territory in the Ukraine as Russian territories/annexation and will defend those areas with these untrained kids, and probably the use of advanced/maybe WMD's to defend them.

Putin might be doing this all with international law being intact, but so what? His troops are not ready to defend these territories against Ukraine/NATO forces.?
 
The US couldn't even decisively defeat ISIS and a bunch of rag-head medieval Afghans. NATO is a paper tiger. Don't get overconfident about what they might or might not accomplish when boots hit the ground. Fighting to the last Ukrainian is one thing, but once US boys start dying it becomes a very different thing. Read more of Wauk's previous articles and some of the links he posts. We've been fed a lot of nonsense by western media. Russia is not losing, not even close. Ukraine, on the other hand, is being slowly but steadily sliced and diced to preserve the pretense of US world dominance.
 
I watched Scott Ritter after Russia lost the northern front. He was embarrassed and had no explanation for there being no heavy artillery at the end. He looked a bit shocked. Things had changed in his mind and he couldn't figure it out. He is a military expert. I am not sure this was planned by Putin, and he has been taken off guard and is reacting in a horrible way.

Not the only country in that kind of situation. I suspect a lot of China's aggression is driven by the same kind of thing, now that their economy is slowing focusing on Taiwan and the like is a similar thing. And the Chinese are not about to join with the West against Russia, they see Russia as an ally, at least temporarily. Making the world safe for democracy is the last thing people like this want, it would be their demise...

You talk a lot of sense, Alligatorob. People need to be rational and not let their emotions get in the way of their judgement.
I'm also curious about Ukraine joining the EU. The country has wanted to join for some time but was refused because we knew it was for defence purposes. Zelensky is very much his own man. I can't see him accepting the dictatorship of Brussels after severing ties with Moscow.

I'm always receptive to alternative views, and I have read the content in all of your links.

My opinion is that if Putin has "drafted" 300,000 men, many of whom were protesters who didn't want to fight and who didn't believe in the war with Ukraine, how does this benefit him? They are not only NOT engaged in fighting Ukraine, but who is to say they won't just seek asylum there?

Drafting men who don't want to fight? His troops who do want to fight have been a disgrace. I would imagine Ukraine is breathing a sigh of relief from this latest mandate.
 
Putin has not 'drafted' 300,000 reluctant protestors who don't want to fight nor believe in the war with Ukraine. He activated reservists and is apparently going to deploy them to free up current active members to use in Ukraine/Donbas. It looks very much as if he's planning to annex the eastern Ukraine oblasts after they vote next week to secede from Ukraine and petition to be annexed. The vote is not in doubt since 90%+ of the people in Donbas and southern Ukraine are Russians. So I think he's planning to position half a million regular active Russain troops, not conscripts in what will then be - quite legally by international law, by the way - Russian Federation territory.

Re your comment about Russian troops being a disgrace, read Douglas Macgregor’s "Holding ground, losing war" - my last link above.
