HI all, new to forum and looking for diversion from all the problems

Hi all
I am new to the forum and would like to take up the invitation to introduce myself.

I was born in 1943 and therefore I am 78 years young. Thankfully my wife of fifty four years and I are still fully fit and therefore can still go for walks daily, usually in the region of two to three miles. That is very much under the instructions of one of our three daughters who being a nurse is always informing us, "at your age either use it or lose it". 😂

Along with the above, our main pre-occupation is our large garden here in North Somerset. However, with the coming of autumn, that is now reducing in our needs and therefore a laugh and a joke on a forum such as this with those of similar age may be just what we need amongst all the gloom that at present surrounds all.

So, that is me and my other half, and i look forward to engaging in the forum as that may tax my brain and further fulfil our daughter's demand of "either use it or lose it".

Welcome Bill and Mrs. Bill. This is a great place to meet others and share all of lifes challenges after a certain age. I am guessing you and the Mrs. are from the UK, is that correct?

Yes both of us were born and bred in Bristol here in the UK. We moved to a small town here on the Bristol Channel coast in 1974 and we genuinely would not wish to live anywhere else.

We have taken holidays in America (Florida) and Europe in the past but now take all our breaks within the UK. However, the real reason behind that is Carol my wife does not like flying and I cannot stand airports, so road and rail here in the UK is the perfect answer for us. 😊

Hi Bill.. from Herts... do feel free to fill in your profile.. :)

I am also in Texas and will admit I love all the things in the UK but know you are strugging with the increased of everything as we are. I like your wife hate flying but can do so with a little medicinal help. Just have her ask the doctor for some Xanax when needed for travel. It really does help if you decide you want to travel. I was terrified to fly but had no choice when my husband became ill and we needed to travel for treatment. Sounds like you can go anywhere you want by car or train. That is great!!

I feel things would be a lot better and brighter here in the UK if we could hang on to a government for more than a few weeks. 😂

However, "when" things are normal car, coach and rail for travel suit us well. That said I do still prefer car travel if we are staying away from home as should you arrive at a hotel any other holiday venue and do not like what we find, then you can get back in the car and just drive off.

With any other means of travel that is not always possible. The problem is in that, at the age of seventy eight I no longer like driving in the way I use to do.

Recently I did voluntarily take an assessment driving test with a driver instruction company and passed out OK. However, I think that it is just me and modern traffic conditions do not do together these days, and my wife feels the same, but we do persevere.

I do not know if it is the same in the US, but the rule seems to be on British roads, are that we have no rules.

Oh dear, that simply isn't true.. we have probably some of the best road rules in the world..altho' very congested roads... Please feel free to join in other threads Bill... (y)

@Blessed, Xanax isn't available here on Prescription..:(
Your doctors can't prescribe it. They gave it to me for flying, They gave it to me after my husband passed, Now I have it for migraines to relieve pain and anxiety that brings. It is very helpful in certain times. I have a bottle on my bed side table. I don't have to use it often but it gives me comfort knowing it is there if I need it.

Someone, over there said get paracetmol? for my migraines, looked it up, not available here, olpoid, codiene. I would have got it if I could for the migraines.

It's known as Tylenol here. Worthless med as far as I am concerned.

Fiorinal worked when I had migraines. Need a scrip from a physician for it. It's an oldie, but it works.
