Well, Twitter scares some people now because it looks like there will be more than one point of view allowed.Yes, I'd like to know too!
Before I join Twitter, what IS scary about it?
I did not realize that LinkedIn was owned by Bill GatesI don't like LinkedIn. I've never had a use for it. I'm on there but never use it. Partly because I never got acquainted with how it works. I sent one "it was great working with you" msg. to a former coworker and only because I meant it.
Almost no one reads posts. Or maybe they don't understand. I encounter this often. I'll specify that I only do this or don't do that, and they'll ignore it and ask me anyway.I am trying to sell a Charles Dickens anthology of Christmas novellas and short stories on Marketplace. I state in the ad not to ask for my phone number and they would have to come to my house. I received 3 inquiries asking for my phone number. When I asked if they had read the ad since I said not to ask for my number, I was accused of being a scammer.
I got tired of the Duck page and all its self promotional advertising. I now use Startpage. They also some ad stuff, but nowhere near as invasive and p.i.a. as the Duck's became.Well, Twitter scares some people now because it looks like there will be more than one point of view allowed.
Facebook is scary because they can track your activity. I’ve notice how, if I google something like “best coffe maker” then ads for coffee makers start showing up on FB. It’s why I switched to Duck Duck Go for my search engine.
All the big tech companies(including Twitter) track the user and collect data. But DDG is a good choice over Bing and Google.Facebook is scary because they can track your activity. I think we have dealt with some of the same people on here.Almost no one reads posts. Or maybe they don't understand. I encounter this often. I'll specify that I only do this or don't do that, and they'll ignore it and ask me anyway.
I would rather throw items in the trash, than have people come to my house. There's people that answer "for sale" posts on Craig'sList, Facebook and the local newspaper that want to take a look around your house, to see if it's worth burglarizing.I am trying to sell a Charles Dickens anthology of Christmas novellas and short stories on Marketplace. This seems so self evident but many people who use FB lack a bigger picture of what it is.Most sites are what you make of them. Be judicious in what you say or believe.
Why not?I have a FB account only to keep up with whats happening in my small town and the school system that my grandchildren go to, I hardly ever post on it and I weed out all misinformation post....no way in hell would I join Twitter.
I don't let them in my house, and the outside deliberately looks like its not worth the bother way out here. The Chow doesn't hurt the effect either.I would rather throw items in the trash, than have people come to my house. Too many damn acronyms being used these days. I gotta go to a search engine to look them up before understanding the damn posts.Funny story. When I first read the OP's post, I though she was thinking of quitting the FBI. I was thinking quitting? Retiring, I could understand.

I will be getting off it too.
So he is meddling in the world. He heYou do realize, I hope, that Bill Gates no longer runs Microsoft? He's not even on the board anymore
High five and a hearty ME TOO!No problem for me. I don't do social media except this Senior Forum. So, far no adds and that is nice. What they do with FB and Twitter and the rest of them is about the last thing in this world that I am concerned with.
You see, I have a life with a lot of interests and hobbies. If suddenly all the computers, cell phones and cable TVs disappeared from this world, I would still survive and I think I would like the world more because I think there would be a lot less anger and a lot more happy people. There would be "no sweat off my brow."
What a like minded post. Having survived most of my life without computers, cell phones and the internet I feel well placed to survive the remaining time that I have on this earth if all that technology was suddenly denied us.No problem for me. Fair enough. There’s a lot of negativity, disinformation, infighting and nonsense on here (SF) too.
That’s what makes it interesting, to me and possibly others. But it’s not always bad
and it’s not bad in all ways either, again, just my opinion. I’m like a lot of people, I
think. If it’s something I like, then it’s good. If I don’t like it, then it’s bad. Your view
may be different than mine but the online world isn’t always one of civility.
The world needs more funny pictures and word games and what better way to put
them before the masses than social media sites!
