Texas sends people to DC to freeze

Thankfully this group took action

The migrants were later taken to a church by the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, a local aid group.

Why didn't the DC authorities do what was needed?
Oh, I'm sure the pols, who openly or tacitly encouraged them to come, will open up their own homes, and perhaps even adopt a few dozen into their families.......'tis the Christmas spirit, eh?

It is my understanding, that there are literally thousands of vets living on the street. It would seem to indicate a long term problem around effectively helping them, originating far before the current migrant situation. Whether or not one agrees with permitting migrants to remain in the country, this act was utterly shameful, petty, and the timing, despicable. I am flabbergasted.

It is my "understanding" that many people who do not actually live in America have a very limited view of what is actually going on in our country! You go from having an "understanding" to criticizing something you heard or read on some Canadian media outlet! Your facts are limited, or you would not have jumped to the assumptions you splattered all over in your post.

You worry about Canada and let Americans worry about the USA....

Exactly. And the VP is the one person who held the Welcome Torch the highest. She talked forever about sharing our home with immigrants from our southern borders.

Busloads of migrants dropped off at vice president’s DC home on Christmas Eve (yahoo.com)

Glad to see the spirit of love and kindness is alive in Texas. (Not.)
Why should only border states be solely responsible for these people?

Their shelters and hospitals are already caring for more than they can handle. It is perhaps time for the rest of the country to show some kindness and compassion! They should be waiting at the border with buses to transport them to their states.

Share and share alike.

A lack of courtesy is one of the strongest indicators of a faulty argument. Actually, my fiance is an American, former senior officer in your country. His views are concurrent with my own. Have a nice day.

It is my understanding that a lot of Americans don't have a clue either.

As I understand it, there are literally tens of thousands of migrants/illegal immigrants/refugees, etc. along our southern border. So many, the local communities are unable to house the vast majority, nor even able to adequately feed... during a period when temps fell below freezing.

So a few were given adequate heat, while being bussed to D.C., where they were promptly given adequate housing and nutrition.

From freezing temps and inadequate nutrition and housing... to freezing temps with adequate nutrition and housing. Perhaps more should be done at the border, or the border should come to the guru of the border, the V.P.

I as a lifelong Texan, am ashamed and embarrassed often by the way migrants, the homeless, people that struggle to buy food or pay the their bills, the elderly on fixed incomes are treated. I am sure if we really look at the truth of it we would see that this is happening in every state in the US and in other countries.

I don't make the decisions, I don't like the decisions but I don't want to be blamed for things out of my control in the US or worldwide. Can't go further than that or it would be the NONO of politics. I don't discuss it in the real world or the internet. Each person has their own opinion, that is fine by me.

First, the people who were "dropped off" in DC were taken care of, and this was political, not racial.

Back in the late 40s, after WWll, American construction companies built entire neighborhoods for returning veterans. The benefits they receive include college tuition, free medical care and free military burial services (emphasize services. you still have to pay for your plot and mortuary services), and free nursing/retirement homes.

No one built homes for veterans of later wars, e.i., Vietnam and Middle-East, funding for medical services was cut, and some VA hospitals closed. I'm not sure why, but these decisions were made by congress. I'm certain they were politically driven.

If we neighbored Germany and Germans were flowing into the US like water from a broken dam, people's attitude toward them would be no different. The problem is numbers, not color, and many thousands of the illegal border-crossers are indeed criminals, coming in right alongside women and children.

They've not been tested for covid or TB or any other communicable disease, they steal what they need or can sell, they steal money and cars, sell drugs they smuggled in, etc. And again, the criminal ones number in the thousands per month.

Texas sends people to DC to freeze ...

... is it better to let them freeze to death on the Texas-Mexico border? ..Fact: There is no more room "at the inn" (southern border)
(They've been huddling outside in freezing temperatures this past week on the border.)

DC needs to figure it out, not Texas.

This pertains to the thread title.

When my wife orders something from Amazon it usually comes with a expected arrival date. Other stuff whether coming via USPS, UPS or Fed X there is a tracking # with an expected arrival date.

Why investigative reporters don't investigate something like this makes me wonder.

The driving time from El Paso, Texas to Washington, District of Columbia is:
28 hours, 39 minutes.

It's not like the federal government doesn't have the ability to track bus loads of migrants headed out of Tx. If the federal government tracked I'm pretty sure it would help the destination cities by giving them advanced notification of expected arrival. That way destination cities could be ready to receive, house, feed, provide warm winter clothing & provide whatever medical care might be needed.

By flooded I mean the report released Friday showing a little over 237,000 illegal entries the month of Nov. 2022. Quick math put illegal entry at 7900 per day in Nov.
