I'm near the end of the fourth season of this excellent series on Netflix. This season is a humdinger, mainly about the tragedy of Charles and Diana, but also with quite a bit about Margaret Thatcher, and one episode about apartheid in South Africa. It's beautifully, shot and the acting is terrific.
The Queen seems like a pretty cold character to me. Her devotion is entirely to the crown, to royalty, and to the "people of the commonwealth," though she doesn't really seem to care about people very much at all, starting with her own children. And her sister's happiness was thrown away; Elizabeth could have stopped that.
A few years ago, the movie The Queen showed her in pretty much the same light, immediately after Diana's death. So I guess it's pretty much on the mark.
