Keeping "Undesirables" Away ("Here's My Sign")

We bought a sign about 10 years ago for the front porch/door that I didn't really think would work, but it has! Only one time in those ten years has anyone knocked for soliciting, and that was a little kid selling sandwiches and of course I bought a bunch. ☺️ A few times a year, the neighbor says he sees someone start up the sidewalk and then turn around again.

Sign reads:
No Soliciting No Fundraising No Politics No Religion No exceptions

This made me smile because it reminded me of an elderly neighbour years ago. When we had a new neighbour, the elderly lady was shocked to see a similar notice on their door - she didn't understand "No soliciting" and thought it referred to ladies of the night - "we don't have that sort of thing around here" she said indignantly :)

@CallMeKate Should your notice read "No unsolicited fundraising ....". In the UK soliciting means something else (and it's nothing to do with the legal profession!)

Here in the Province of Ontario, door to door sellers are prohibited by law. The only exception is for official political party members, during an election campaign period, which only last 45 days. Yes our elections are short periods of time, from the day the election is called to voting day, and all candidates have just 5 days to take down all their signs after election day , or they face large fines under The Elections Act. JImB.

Kate, your salesmen are wimps. Nothing seems to keep them away here. My sign does just say no soliciting but it’s at eye level when they ring my doorbell. Maybe I need to get more inventive.
I have a feeling it's more religious people wanting to "convert" and leave their pamphlets than actual sales people. Before the sign, I told them I have my own faith and am strong in it, and I've even asked if *they* would like to be converted to make them stop (I know, naughty, naughty!) but nothing ever worked. It's like they had a daily quota or something. But not one since we put the sign up. (y)

Oh, that would be so nice to have them prohibited! The worst ones are those selling cemetery plots. Back before we got the sign, it was quite a problem. Even my most intimidating (okay, well it seemed like it to me!) glare didn't make them stop trying. I never had the nerve to actually close a door in someone's face but maybe I should have. ☺️ @jimintoronto

Oh my goodness, that's priceless! :D

I found one for you, @Myrtle ! It says,
"Before you knock on my door, please note:
This home charges $50.00 per minute to listen to sales pitches and religious messages. This fee is payable in advance. By knocking on my door or ringing my doorbell, you are agreeing to my terms and conditions as stated above. No Soliciting!"

:giggle: :giggle:
Maybe that will keep your pests away.

I used to have that type of sign when I lived in the Naval Married Quarters , we were plagued by door-to-door salesman .. .. Rarely get anyone here other than the odd Jehovahs' Witness, but I do have a sign on my door saying no junk mail.. and amazingly I don't get any!

Here is a shirt for when you leave your safe house. :)

"I've already voted.
I don't need a tree cut down.
I don't need storm windows.
I'm quite comfortable with my current relationship with Jesus.
I'm too broke to buy anything.
I read magazines at the doctor's office.
I already have cable.
I don't care whether or not your band goes to the Rose Bowl Parade.
My driveway is just fine as it is.
No, really, I don't want to discuss the current state of my soul.
Really.

So, if you don't have Girl Scout Cookies, get lost!"
