What are you doing today 2023

We have a woodstove in the living room. Dio kept it going all day, and part of the night. It was enough to keep us comfortable. We also used it to heat up our meals (and make coffee!! ☕), and put pots of water on it for brushing our teeth, etc.

We also have a generator that is big enough to run the kitchen refrigerator and the chest freezer...along with a few lights, although we mainly used candles at night, or occasionally a flashlight.

Most of our time was spent tending to the woodstove and generator. The rest was spent just dealing with what we needed to do to get through the situation.

Guess what? More cr*p weather is coming later today!!!! (sigh). At least we are still set up, in case we loose power again.
What a blessing that woodstove and generator are when the power goes out, especially in freezing weather! Do you lose power most winters, or was this a rarity?

So far I’m dreading what other damage I’ll find out in the garden today. When I took the dogs out at six I could see even in dim light that the the tops of the Geranium maderense look like boiled spinach. Fortunately they hadn’t yet begun to bloom so they might just be delayed. I’ve never had one damaged in a frost before. Ugh.

I know how you feel, I've suffered from arthritis along with a bad fall from a playground equipment circa 1972. Ever since my back problems have been worsening.

I used my stationary bike but it was a nightmare on my body. Tried Yoga but some if the poses don't always agree with my back.

Therefore, I've searched for something that could give me movement and peace of mind at the same time. I remembered watching the "Calendar Girls" film and a scene where they do T'ai Chi.

Been doing it for a few months now and feel much better, body, mind and soul. Gets you moving, to stop the stiffness and relaxes your mind. I use this lady's channel in YouTube for it. Sweet and short sessions then you'll feel energetic again.

Good luck @NorthernLight
Thank you for the recommendation. It's so important to find something that I enjoy, and that I can actually do. If this helps restore my energy a bit, that will be amazing! I'll check it out today.

I had a bad experience with Tai Chi classes in the past, but that was a personality thing. I also tried Terry Dunn and David Dorian Ross videos. Unfortunately, I tend not to like slow movements, and the long sequences were not for me. I'm willing to try short sessions though.

Today ... I'll check out the Tai Chi videos (assuming my Internet cooperates). Other exercises, housework, talk to my language partner. Then the day will be over.

thanks Supernatural... After years of Back problems caused by herniated discs, and OA of my spine.. I have a reacher tool... and several canes dotted throughout the house to try and make life easier when my back goes out suddenly like this. I also treat it with Heat pads ( some people prefer cold, heat works better for me) and painkillers .. Good idea about taking the grabber tool to the shops.. however when my back is as painful as it is now, I can't go out, can't drive so I'm not in the shops.. but as you say handy for everything around the home..
I don't know if you have this service in England @hollydolly but might be good to do wee bit of research in order to get a mobility scooter with a benefit of something new called, I think, Adult Independent Payment (which is replacing DLA).

That would help you go out when your back spasms out, get fresh air and definitely get medications and groceries supplies. If you've got the chance try to get the Heat Rub Lotion from Boots or other local shops. Currently using and it's been marvelous. Yes, heat's better and swimming would be, which reminds me, I've to check my leisure centre's updated site.

Apparently, the pool's open again to public and yes swimming is great for your back. In a pinch, get into shower and using a good handheld device with massage, helps to unknot scrunched up backs. Cheers!

Aww Bless you.. but I'm not classed as Disabled which is a good thing.. so not suitable for anything like a disability allowance .

I buy my groceries in bulk.. so in essence I can go for several weeks before I need to shop.. and my back is unpredictable, it's sore all the time because I have the Herniated discs and OA, but mostly it doesn't prevent me doing everything I need to do. The photos you've seen of me on another thread are me as I am.. mostly always mobile and active albeit that I have to be careful of my back..

It's the unpredictability of the loss of my ability to stand up after I've been doing something active after a period of Inactivity.. that is the darn nuisance

Since my husband left 17 months ago.. and previous to that when I retired from work ..I don't leave the house on a regular basis as I once did. We were always out and about somewhere.. There's very few places to go around here.. except into nature..Woodland, rivers etc..on my own .. and much as it's very pretty, it's very samey after over 40 years... further to that it's been winter, and I stay home most of the time.

Our local pool as I previously said is the only one open to the public for miles around, so therefore it gets very full all the time.. and altho' they have exercise classes ( 2 a week) it's at 6am... no-one is getting me up at 6am to drive to the pool on a winters morning..

I do use heat..heatpad, shower etc.. to help relax the muscles when they seize up.. but of course it's not all muscle related .. the Osteoarthritis is in my Spine..

I also do the exercises I'm given by my Physiotherapist.. ..

Thanks for trying to help.. believe me after several surgical procedures, fortunes spent on Physio.. all sorts of devices at home.. I do try and do my best to help myself..

Busy day today... Ed took me to Lowe's to get a new microwave and then we went to lunch.

Now I'm getting things assembled to take with me for my weekly time with my older granddaughter. She was with her dad over the weekend (her birthday fell during that time), so I called yesterday to find out if she'd like to have a "make your own pizza" party when I come today. That was well received and she listed off toppings she'd like... Cheese, pepperoni and 'biscuit crumbles'--? Say what? Difficulty describing them to me over the phone. Her mom texted me later with a translation: SAUSAGE crumbles, lol. OK, right, I think I can manage that! hahaha

Hello, and good afternoon!

I started my new pillow last night, and it just sucked me in.....I slept like a log!!! 😃

Weather wise, it's going to be another cr*p day, and I've not even stepped outside yet.

When my power was out, I took all of the bread out of my chest freezer and put it in the kitchen freezer, all of the meat, etc from the kitchen freezer went into the chest freezer. Bottom line, is that I can't find a thing!! So this morning I took everything out both freezers and sorted it all out as to what goes where, and put everything away where I need it to be. It seems like such a small thing, but I feel as if I've made a huge accomplishment!

Other than that, I've been working on my latest project: relearning how to play Backgammon! I used to play, many, many, many years ago (high school?), and I really do not remember anything at all about it! I bought a travel set for one dollar, and I've been trying to figure out the very confusing directions that came with it. This morning, I found a good sight on line, aimed at beginners! So I'm on my way!

That's my day so far. The next wave of cr*p is almost here. I had better go out and check fences while I can. I also want to find Andy....he hasn't had any water yet, today. I'm sure he's thirsty.

I'll be back when I can. TTYL

unfortunately, it'll have to wait til next week... my daughter's sick in bed =(

I took a nap after prayer and breakfast and woke up again at 11 a.m. I hope this doesn't become a thing because it throws my day off. I had been waking up no later than 9 a.m., even after being up half the night. I wanted to watch something but my Roku showed that I didn't have an internet connection. I realized that what I heard being knocked over by our fur baby while I was sleeping was the Verizon power pack and router, so I couldn't go online either because the plugs came loose. My son wasn't planning on coming straight home after work but I told him I needed him to fix the issue ASAP because I couldn't figure out what was wrong, the wires were so taut that I couldn't move the Verizon equipment around and it didn't help that I have short arms. He got home fairly early; detected and fixed the problem right away.

I spent a good bit of time looking for photos that could possibly be used in my video. I searched my external drives, both of my photo apps and flash drives. I know the picture is in the house somewhere but I have so many pictures in various places. There's one in particular I was thinking would be good to use but I can't find a copy of anywhere. My sister said I look demented in the photo but my husband loved it and said I looked sexy. :ROFLMAO: He even used it for his screen saver.

I took another short nap this afternoon. I felt sluggish today so once again, I didn't do things around the house I intended to do. I sent an email to management about needing rooter service for my kitchen sink, watched a couple of episodes of How Close Can I Beach, played Cody Cross and Words With Friends. I'm getting ready to relax, have dessert and watch T.V.

I cleaned my oven today (without chemical cleaners). Doesn't sound exciting and yeah ... it wasn't 😑
When there's chunks of burnt stuff on the bottom and the glass front panel is kind of brownish on the inside, it's just time for a cleaning! Hopefully it's a happy oven next time I fire it up :)

Morning keeps happening day after day. Has anybody else noticed?

I was awake at 4 so crawled outta the bed. Trouble with getting up just a few minutes early is that I get the notion that there's plenty of time. Then I dawdle.

New Lady will be there today. It's gonna be a long six hours!

No ice and sNOw here; it's all going north of us, thank heaven. Heck, we might even see some sun this afternoon.

@hollydolly Here's hoping your back has decided to cooperate with whatever you want to get done today.

Very windy today. Mrs.L has just hung washing out to dry and is hoping that it stays on the line. I've been sorting our collection of empty jam and pickle jars. We make quite a lot of jams, pickles and chutneys so we need a lot of jars. You can buy jars, but they're expensive. It's often cheaper to buy full jars and empty the contents, but that would be wasteful o_O.

Cooking spaghetti Bolognese for dinner.

Very windy here today as well.. but Sunny.. on this mini National strike in all but name....

The senior school children here ( my area) are one of the few who are still in School.. but the primary schools teachers have gone on strike along with the rest of the UK.. and the London bus drivers, and all of the Uk train drivers, and civil servants, and goodness knows who else.. :cautious: One of the many times I;m pleased I'm retired.. not trying to get to work today ...

Yesterday……got going through some bedding.
Duvet covers I use to use with the inserts…..but haven’t for a very long time…..because I get too hot.
So…..I’ve been using them like a bedspread cover.
Keeping 3…..others go to friends that want them.
Kept 2…..that go over Mickis’ kennel…..she likes the coziness and darkness when she’s in there…..but not on the door side.

All of these are all on the list for alterations…..I’m taking out the zippers on all of them and closing the opening…..but…..still keeping the double fabric.

Today…..full recycle bin to the curb.

Time at the sewing machines.

Looking at the calendar, seeing February 1st…….starting to panic somewhat……still seeing tons to do to prepare for moving.
My goal is possibly to move end of May…..I’ve had some slacked off time this winter, and now feeling guilty for wasting some of that time.
