What are you doing today 2023

There will be 5 full on vegans coming, 2 Gluten Free vegans, 3 vegetarians (including DH & me), 2 ketos, and the rest omnivores. A few of us are flexible eaters when it comes to party fare (like DH & me) so they're included in their most inclusive categories.

So 12 "special diet" folks and 28 omnivores.

The idea is a 70s theme, featuring that era's music, decor and foods we frequently ate at 70s Appetizer & Dessert parties. (I never heard of quinoa until well after 2000). Tofu and hummus weren't on my radar either. Potato salad and chili were/are delish, but picnic fare.

Even so, I'll be offering hummus alongside 70s traditional dips: Lipton onion soup mix dip and Knorr spinach dip, both made with dairy sour cream for the omnivores as well as vegan sour creams for the vegans. Fritos and potato chips are GF & vegan, as are the crudites I'll also be serving.

Hot artichoke dip - I'll try making some vegan, not sure how that will turn out. Also will offer full dairy version. It's already GF.
Vegan spring rolls are on the menu and cover all but GF and ketos. Same with stuffed mushrooms.
Pigs in a blanket - omnivores only
Cold shrimp with cocktail sauce - omnis & keto
Mini calzones - vegetarian and omnis
Stuffed celery sticks - full dairy and non dairy versions will cover everyone.

Waldorf salad in both vegan and dairy versions - all but keto.
Hawaiian skewers with chicken, peaches and pineapple will also be available with tofu instead of chicken, so they cover all.

Will make some vegan GF cookies and probably take a stab at vegan carrot cake if there's time (can't manage that in a GF version).
All other desserts (amaretto mousse, carrot cake & lemon bars) will work for everyone but keto and vegans.

Everything will be marked as dairy, vegan, GF, etc.

I bought some light up floral crowns for little girls who might not have anything 70s to wear, and round glasses (John Lennon style) for boys and girls.

Should be a hoot. If I know my guests (and I do) as @Jules suggested, they'll figure out how to fill themselves up and have a great time.
@StarSong, you are *definitely* the hostess with the mostest!!!

I have cooked all my life but know very little about vegan and gluten free. I did learn to cook many tasty healthy diabetic meals when a friend stayed here after a surgery. My husband also did Atkins back in the day. Lettuce took the place of breads, tortillas. Veggies came in to replace pastas etc. r

I do so admire you @StarSong for taking the time to prepare for a special party that everyone can enjoy. I just feel lucky I can get in the kitchen and feed myself.

@Kalia, thanks for your kind words. Just reading about all the things our members accomplish is a great motivator. Are you on a special diet? Is it dental problems or swallowing issues that plague you. I ask because we have a family thing, esophageal strictures.

It passed me and my sister by, but both are sons have the issue, just like there grandma. They have to go in every few years and have it treated. They stretch the esophagus during an endoscopy. My mother suffered most of her life with choking. We finally got her to go to a specialist. Who knew it would be so easy to fix. She was still cautious about eating meat but she could have it. I guess it was not a bad thing, she ate a mostly plant based diet and lived to 90.

Today, it appears is 'Shrove Tuesday'. It's just another bit of superstition as far as I'm concerned, but it's fun to make a few pancakes and dust off the bottle of maple syrup.

We had a power cut this morning - just as I was making breakfast. It only lasted about 15 mins, but it messed up things a bit. It's misty at present, but forecast is for a warm partly sunny day. However, I've learned not to trust the forecast too much.

Sorry, @hollydolly .... I thought it was world-wide. This from Wiki:
The Shamrock Shake is a seasonal green mint flavored milkshake dessert sold at some McDonald's restaurants during Feb/March to celebrate St. Patirick's Day in the US, Canada and Ireland.
awww.I should have guessed. I thought it might be something to do with Guinness lol

Grey day here today, 51 deg so not really cold, but I feel cold today.

Tyring to get my computer to work as it should , followed Youtube tutorials but nothing is working. Might have to call someone in.. had a search for Mac repairs and they all want to take my computer away.. I'm not keen on that idea, given it's a software issue and not hardware.. but in all honesty this not working properly is driving me up the wall..

Had a funny dream last night , @debodun, @Mizmo and I were running away from something. We were holding hands with Mizmo in the middle. Deb had a Hummel figurine, and I was holding Miz's sans-thumb hand. It kept slipping away from me because we couldn't get a good grip. Then I woke up. What? LOL

It's 62 here this morning. Not kidding!
Holy smoke!!...do you think we stole the Hummel and the cops were after us.Scared.gif They are quite valuable,
Well seems you hung on to the hand and Deb had good hold on the other coz here I am this morning:ROFLMAO:

Today I am catching up on things I should have done the last two days. I tried to keep my feet up as much as I could so didn't get much done. I plan on doing it today.
Please don't overdo, Kat. What you don't get done today can wait for tomorrow. Or the next day. As we all know, housework is nothing if not patient.

It'll all be there when you're ready. 🤗

I'm sitting here listening to a groundhog dig under the front
stoops....it was ambling across the cemetery and made a bee
line for my place, probably an old tenant!!! LOL...can't keep them away.....had sausage/eggs for breakfast, not much else going on right now, except the usual aches and pains.....don
