Have you tried any meal kits???

My son in law got them when my daughter was pregnant to help out. It taught him skills to cook good nutritious meals. He is a great cook now!
I'm not sure exactly which one but it was healthy.

I tried one .... the food was actually very good. One of the meals had a sweet pototo casserole that was really tasty !!

Trouble is ..... they want to keep you on a weekly plan ... from the start. So you have to make your weekly selections from the start. I Said no ! And then the box & coldpacks that the food is delivered in is a pain in the ass to breakdown and put in the trash.

Did I mention ... the sweet potato casserole was good ? {Actually they called it a sweet potato mash}

I like to cook for myself and since I am able to, I do. My mom is 90 and gets meals on wheels and she has bought food kits in grocery stores and she did like them. Whole Foods used to carry them regularly but stopped. But she does not get delivery service. She can still cook by the way and very well too. But to pay for delivered meals and a meal plan is beyond her means financially now.

I'd like to try meal kits but I don't really want to cook more than I already do. Has anyone tried the prepared meals from Sprouts? They are fresh, not frozen and I've been considering them.

Thanks for all the replies I was just curious, I see them advertised a lot on TV.

I've been thinking about getting one, called Meals on Wheels....
that way I'd just have to nuke them and eat!!!! no preparation....:p

may I ask is that the name of a meal kit or is that those home delivered meals for seniors?

Our daughter gifted us a Hello Fresh meal kit a few years ago. I can't remember exactly what it was, but do
recall that it was very fresh & tasty.

Meals On Wheels are ready-made meals that are delivered to shut-in seniors, I believe. There are differing
opinions on them.

I got Meals on Wheels when I was first out of the hospital after surgery last year .I only kept it for a few days. Decided I would rather do it myself. But I do remember from when my dad had it.....if you are not at home and have not called ahead to cancel that day, they will not leave the meal and may cancel your service

We tried Meals On Wheels here in our community........they only did 4 dinners a week and I must say it was the worst prepared food I ever ate. We now eat a lot of fast food now because I find it very difficult to try to cook, standing on my feet more than a couple of minutes caused much pain!

I tried Hello Fresh and there was a lot of confusion over the delivery date. The first box was finally delivered at 9pm, just as I was finishing a call to their customer service. I was able to tell the agent that it finally arrived and the cold packs were still cold, but I cancelled the service. She was very polite and understanding.

The meals were just OK. They looked exactly like the prepared meals I can get in the deli at the grocery store where I normally shop, so I think that's where they came from.

This was when I lived in an apartment in South Sacramento where good restaurants are scarce. Since the food is "locally sourced," Hello Fresh's options were also scarce. People in West Sac probably get better meals from Hello Fresh.

For the price, I want something that’s prepared. I have all the spices, etc in my cupboard so would only be saving myself a bit of time with the measuring.

I know of a couple of places in town that have meals that are totally prepared. They’re designed to be reheated. They get excellent reviews. If I were unable to cook, I’d be willing to try these.

We tried Sun Basket a few years ago. At first, I liked it very much because it was very tasty and the menu options were great. They offered different types of cuisine and used ingredients that I was curious to taste. After a while, I felt like cooking again and stopped the shipments. I rejoined later but was disappointed with the shipments and deliveries. The box arrived in poor shape and was not well insulated. Quality of product was no longer to my satisfaction and pricing was high. So I quit ordering from them.
For a long time I ordered items from Omaha Steaks. I have always been pleased with their products and customer service (if needed). I only use them for the holidays now because they have become very expensive.
Most of the delivery meal service companies boomed through the pandemic as demands were so high.

PS: Our supermarket (Publix) offers quite a nice variety of prepared meals in their deli dept. I also like the Amy's Frozen Vegetarian meals offered at the supermarket.

I tried Hello Fresh a few years ago, and also Every Plate which was a lot less expensive. (At least it was then... no idea what they're like now.) Both had decent recipes and the food quality was okay, but I stopped after a short time.

No! If they can't send the chef along with the kit to make the meal for me, I'm not interested. I'd rather either buy the ingredients myself at a much cheaper price, have my son pick up something from a restaurant or go there, sit down and enjoy a meal. I like being served anyway. :D

@mrstime When I was going to the senior center they served us pretty decent, good tasting meals. After COVID hit and the center closed they delivered meals to us on the order of Meals on Wheels. Though supposedly from the same program as the center, the food was substandard. I called and told the woman to remove me from the list of deliveries and told her why. Not only did the meals not taste good, they were full of sodium. What I didn't say is that I couldn't see tipping the delivery people for meals I would not eat.

Never tried Meals on Wheels but ...... I have taken up more fast food , for the same reasons.

That is why I tried the meal kits.

I went to Walmart yesterday, bought some food, & delivered it home myself. That way, I know just what I'll be eating.

That of course is the very best way. However some of us have mobility issues that prevent it.
