Teen shot in the head after going to wrong address to pick up siblings

Black Lives Matter TOO.
Horrified by this hideous story.
The homeowner did not have to go to the door at all if he didn't like who was on the other side. I don't answer the door when my new downstairs neighbor comes to complain. I'm afraid I'll hurt her if I do..........not necessarily physically either.
I saw the old guy's pic. Mental, still dying his hair at 84. What goes on in his head is nasty territory.

Is it at all possible that some people live in fear of you?
Of course not, or at least, I hope not. I get along very well with my neighbors. Sometimes, I think people pity me. I get a lot of dinner invites. I live in a 24-hour gated community that has an armed security guard at the the only entrance/exit.

The police and fire departments are only a block away. I sometimes walk down to the fire department and if they are cleaning their trucks and equipment, I will ask if I can help. They haven’t refused me yet.

I can’t understand why anyone would shoot someone for pulling into their driveway. If they are there to do something bad, they aren’t going to pull into your driveway. It may be time to put this old boy in a home.

It is amazing he wasn't killed! Thank God! I hope that child's family sues the bazoobas out of that old man! I'd have his house, his car, his retirement savings, his SS checks...the whole nine by the time I was finished with his a*s if he'd shot my son or any of his children! Of course I wonder if the boy had been White would he have done the same thing. I hope the charges stick like glue and he gets to spend the rest of his miserable life in prison. If the charges don't stick I believe the city will have quite a protest going on.
I agree, people like this who recklessly shoot others for no reason should pay the price, too much of that going on to pretend it didn't happen anymore. A young man ringing a doorbell is not exactly like a crazed person breaking through your front door, in that case use of the firearm would be more understandable.

Of course this would not have happened if that boy was white, this has been proven to us too many times. Racism is alive and well in the United States and there are plenty of dead victims to prove it. Glad this young man is still with us, although his life has changed for the worse. People should protest, this needs to stop or at least slow down, and the killers/shooters need to held accountable. Black lives matter, it's a damn shame we have to be saying that in 2023.

So sad. Americans must live with fear of death every day.
I don't. I grew up with enough fear.

I feed the feral cats at work behind some storage sheds and tall bushes and trees next to the gulch. The newer administrator knows about the cats I found out. He was leaving work a couple of weeks ago and saw someone behind the bushes. It was me. He's fine with me feeding them.

Since we have had homeless in the area and even on the property, he told me to just be careful and safe that he was concerned about me being back there alone. I have encountered homeless people feeding the cats. I've been out there in pitch black with a flash light many times.

Getting to the point here. I'm more afraid of the inside of that building than I am of what I encounter outside. Fear is relevant.

As a foreigner to the United States of America your perspective is irrelevant!
I have visited US during the Reagan presidency. Hubby and I drove ourselves around in the western states and never saw a gun other than on a police officer. We felt safe at all times, even when we stayed in San Franscisco and later in New York when we rode the subways.

Sometimes the perspective of a foreign visitor should be listened to. It is possible to be too close to a problem to see it clearly, or too accustomed to it to even recognise that the problem is very serious.

Here's another one .... two kids shot, apparently by someone in the mob, and a man badly beaten for being in the wrong place.

Who bears the blame for this?

Chicago ‘Teen Takeover’ Floods Downtown Area, Two Shot And Several Beaten By Mob

A social media-fueled “Teen Takeover” in the Millennium Park area of Chicago Saturday night spun out of control, resulting in two people shot, 15 arrested, property damage, and police outnumbered in attempts to shut down the disturbance.

The incident mirrored a similar scene last year in Chicago. On Saturday, crowds estimated by various sources in the hundreds up to thousands descended on the Millennium Park, which bars those under 21 after a certain hour. Instead, the teens smashed cars and jumped up and down on trapped vehicles, with police having to escort tourists back to their hotels in the area.

Large groups began gathering earlier in the evening, responding to social media prompts for a takeover. They quickly blocked traffic and mayhem ensued.

Chicago police said two teens,16 and 17 years old, were wounded by a gunman in the crowd.

One woman told Fox 32 her husband was attacked and beaten after a group of teens jumped up and down on the couple’s windshield. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Hundreds of police officers assisted by SWAT teams attempted to restore order as gunfire was reported multiple times.

“Last night CPD monitored activity happening across the city and officers were in place to quickly respond to active incidents and large gatherings,” police said in a statement. “We will continue to have sufficient resources in place as we work to strengthen safety in every neighborhood.”

Maybe consider using the National Guard on weekends and because these are teenagers, fine the parents that are caught that are involved in these situations.

People that don't know our history or really understand our culture have no clear perspective. Her comment "Americans must live with fear of death every day." is in fact true for everyone in the world. Do people in Australia die in car wrecks, airplanes crashes, natural disasters, not to mention the wars your people have fought in. Do people get robbed and/or in knife fights in your country? Do you have violent crime...

You get my point....He who is without sin....

As a foreigner to the United States of America your perspective is irrelevant!
No it isn't, your opinion is more irrelevant. I can share my thoughts about Australia, Canada, etc. without having to live there. Warrigal is an intelligent lady. She is a well respected established member of this community and her perspective is valued here, if you knew that you wouldn't post such ignorant statements.

I have to agree. No matter what you may think of her opinions @Warrigal is an intelligent person, one well worth listening to. Doesn't mean you have to agree with her.

Are you serious? There are Americans who are afraid to send their children to school, they dread having to identify a dead body at the end of the day. There are Americans who are afraid of shopping at a mall, in a supermarket, Walmart, go to a concert, attend a movie, going to church, going to synagogue, public transportation, etc.

This is the new America. Mass shooting of the year, turned into mass shooting of the month, into mass shooting of the week, into mass shooting of the day, into mass shooting of the hour. If you can't acknowledge that, you are not being honest.

By your comment, I can see you have no idea what my point was. Therefore, I won't try to have a further discussion. I will say what I like, if you disagree, that is your problem...

I agree with @againstthegrain that @Warrigal's perspective is very relevant!! A person doesn't have to be an American to see what's going on here, be appalled therefore speak out about it.

Re the OP: I bet that boy's mother is feeling a bit of guilt (or perhaps regret that she didn't go herself) right now even though what happened is not her fault at all. I hope that young man makes a full recovery so he can pursue his dreams and go on to make the world a better place.
