Another AR-15 style rifle mass murder

An 18-year-old gunman fired indiscriminately while roaming a residential street in Farmington, N.M., on Monday morning, killing three people before the police arrived and killed the suspect, the authorities said. Six other people, including two officers, were injured.

Chief Hebbe said that the gunman, whom he did not name, had used at least three different weapons, including an “AR-style rifle,” a gun commonly used in mass shootings, as he roamed through the neighborhood, randomly firing “at whatever entered his head to shoot at” including at least six houses and three cars.

Officers located the shooter in the 700 block of North Dustin Avenue, Chief Hebbe said, where they shot and killed him.

As an outsider I would suggest that whilst the second amendment is set in stone these killings will go on. Rarely do I comment on such subjects, it happened outside of the UK, so best keep my thoughts to myself. For what it's worth though, my wife and I crossed the pond regularly for many years. That all ended when we came close to an incident involving a firearm. We were neither involved, nor witnessed anything but it was close enough to leave the gun culture, head home and stay here.

myanmar in under martial law ; guns are being used indiscriminately on innocent people ; several south america countries have also become lawless with gun mania common; russia feels it necessary to unleash weapons on adjourning states ; Haiti is in a state of lawlessness atm ; syrias; sudan ; tanzania and togo to name but a few the list can go on - what lessons have humans learned about war and peace - but we do puzzle about one of the greater nations USA continuing to be added to this list. Arms are apparently still necessary around the world but the lessons surely are not in the hands of the common person but only used by appointed official officers when necessary?

I personally hate guns, and have never owned one. I have no reason to own one. I have relatives who do own guns. But they use them for hunting legally in season only. Assault weapons are meant to hunt one species only: humans. Yet there is one political party that does not care how many Americans are murdered. Only thing is important is to be against an assault weapon ban, so you'll make certain people happy and help you get re-elected. I am so disgusted with some of my fellow Americans. Fortunately, no one in my family has ever been the victim of gun violence. Sadly, so many other American families cannot make that claim.

I read somewhere that it is an offence to drive out in your car in some amerdican states without being armed ; so as well as an offence to kill unecessarily also an offence not to be armed? Bit like the old westerns heh - you would never consider leaving the homestead without at least one gun - I to think I thouroughly enjoyed those westerns every saturday afternoon back in uk?

Old West deep in American psyche.

Actually there are some legitimate hunting uses. This place uses nothing else, interesting though that they have taken all references to the guns they use.

The reason is they hunt problem hogs and one objective is to kill as many hogs as possible. Farmers pay the outfitter to do it.

I'd still like to see them done away with.

I just ordered a Sig Sauer P320 with a Trijicon RMR red dot sight. It will come mounted and aligned. This pistol will do as much damage as an AR-15 or any other AR. It does not come with a high capacity magazine. The reason I had to order it was because the gun shop where I deal can’t keep them in stock. Together with my Sig Sauer P365, I’m ready for WWIII.

As for an AR-15, I would trust the Sig Sauer 516, only because of its reputation. That doesn’t mean the AR won’t get the job done because as you have all learned by now from what you have read with all the mass shootings, put a high capacity magazine on it and it’s as good as any gun on the market.

How would you like to be in a building and look up and see someone pointing this rifle at you? I shot one of these rifles last December. If you were to ever only buy one rifle, I would recommend this one.

Sheesh! AR style semi autos are clearly a weapon of war,
a gun that has one obvious purpose — shoot and kill human beings, not ducks or deer, humans. As an instrument of self defense they are entirely inappropriate. AR ammo will pierce a wall as effectively as a body. Miss a burglar but hit a neighbor next door or across the street. A short barrel shotgun will kill a burglar, but is far less dangerous for the neighbors. So why buy an AR? I have to believe that for many owners it is little more than a symbol of masculinity. Ban the damn things and perhaps the next school shooter will think twice before he plans a massacre?

Huh? Required to be armed while driving? I once read that if pigs had wings they could fly. Looked out the window — no flying pigs in sight. As for a requirement to be armed while driving in Amerdica, maybe so, but NOT in my America.

That may be the most ridiculous claim I've ever heard from someone not living in the US. Where, praytell, did you read something like that? And if you truly didn't know, of course it's not true. SMH 🤯

No. It won't. Perhaps you should learn a little more about guns.
Believe what you want to believe, I have shot both and I’ll take the Sig Sauer 516 into combat over the AR-15. I would prefer the M400 Tread. I don’t have a need to spread someone’s guts all over the landscape, I just want to be able to load and go. If you have never shot the 516, you should at least try it.

Yes, "Gun Culture" says it all! The Russians have their vodka, the French have their cognac, the Italians have their pasta, the English have their tea and the "Americans" have their guns. Some things are just so slow to change!

Seems like these 2 statements don't match leading to some confusion amongst the posters including myself. It seems the first statement is comparing a P320 pistol to an AR rifle and the 2nd comparing 2 rifles, one a sig model 516 vs an AR. Can you clarify please? Thanks.
