Who feels guilty about eating meat?

I love meat! As a former German I especially like pork! But lately I have been feeling guilty that an animal had to be butchered for my eating pleasure! I could never go vegan, they are too extreme for my taste. Vegetarian, maybe, if someone cooked for me! Am I overly sensitive or are there others like me?

Nope. I usually eat pork or chicken. Do I eat meat every day of the week? Not usually. But It is a part of my diet. I often say, half joking that if you think of it....a plant is a living thing also. Not in the way that humans or animals are living...but still living.

LOVE beef! But I won't eat a little lamb, or a deer (and I'm from Montana!) or bunny rabbit.

I dislike lamb, and besides I couldn't eat Joey's kinfolk. I also don't like venison. But I do like rabbit, we had chickens and rabbits when I was a kid and ate both often. I don't consider rabbits to be cute little fuzzies, frankly I spent all day crying when I was a little girl because a mama rabbit chewed her babies feet off another one bit my finger enough that I still have the scar! So I have no illusions about those cute fuzzies! Chickens are too stupid to worry about as long as they are killed quickly !

well in the OT the Lord required the Israelites to bring forth burnt offerings and it was pleasing to him/her?? - and they were placed here for us to make burnt offerings??

We eat mostly chicken. We've had various chicken dishes for 4 nights now. We eat salmon pretty regularly as well. We eat pork occasionally because there just aren't that many ready-made dishes that include it. (I don't really cook. I "heat up".) We eat hamburgers every couple of weeks and, yes, I feel guilty about eating red meat but every couple of weeks probably won't do any damage.

Did you eve notice how some animals seem to anticipate your next move (pigs, horses etc.) or seem to understand what you are saying (my daughter's dog?) I remember taking a trip to an abbatoir during my Navy days and the cattle were definitely scared before they were butchered! They were slaughtered humanely, but still .. I couldn't eat beef for a couple of weeks after that!

yes when I look at grazing cows or sheep - well they often look peaceful/bored and perhaps have no more function than to provide humans with sustenance but then you could ask the same question of leopards ; tigers ; lions ; elephants etc - I also know being in oz that sheep can get into an awful mess all over if not controlled and their fleeces removed regularly - abbotiars I have never liked my uncle worked in one but wouldn't take us along. but then again is the middle eastern way better - knife to the throat? and that would be much more ancient than abbatoirs?

@seadoug Ah, you are feeling guilty for health reasons! Or am I reading you wrong? When it comes to that I stopped being careful when I reached my mid-eighties! I figured I might as well enjoy life during the few years I had left. And I am very glad I did (and do!)

I've been out at night kangaroo hunting - I was offered a gun as we stood on the trailer but preferred to hold the beam lamp - once you can get them to look at the light they seem to become transfixed and easily shot - the fresh meat at 7am in the morning barbecued was delicious. My biblical studies recently seems to indicate that there are grazing animals for human control and eating and wild animals not for?? - so where does that put the buffalo - I would imagine somehow there are some if not all wild animals whose meat would not be "clean/healthy" for us to eat such as say lion or chimpanzee etc - has anyone come across any scientific reading about this at all?

Funny you should say this , the last couple of weeks ive not ordered any meat , Ive been using up whats in the Freezer , I have become guilty also of eating meats like Chicken and lamb , Theres a intensive Chicken Farm close to me and 40.000 chickens are raised from chicks to slaughter in 6 to eight weeks , fed on a intense diet , never seeing daylight , and now planning permission for another Chicken Sheds as gone in on another Farm land no more that 10 miles from that one .And that one is on a field with a Public footpath through that I have walked .

So I have been looking at foods to replace the meats I won't be eating and to be honest im not likeing all i see , I am eating more Fish which I feel better that fish have a ocean to live there life till they get to adulthood .
