Sologamy rings no bells, but I have heard of women who came to realize that they'd likely never marry so they decided to move forward with their lives rather than continuing to put off buying a condo or house, choosing fine china, investing in good quality furniture, small appliances, linens, etc.

Friends threw showers, held a nice bachelorette event and the non-bride threw a big party for herself, family and friends - the kind she'd always wanted. No bridal gown or ceremony though.

This was mostly 20-ish years ago. It struck me as being a great idea. Why not?
