What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

Long Day’s Journey into Night (1962), originally a drama in four acts by Eugene O'Neill written 1939–41 and produced and published posthumously in 1956. The play, which is considered an American masterpiece, was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1957. Directed by Sidney Lumet. Starring Katherine Hepburn, Ralph Richardson, Jason Robards, and Dean Stockwell.

I watched this film many years ago and watched it again on TCM last night. The acting is superb but this finely crafted film about a seriously dysfunctional family is difficult to watch. The film won Best Actor for Richardson, and Best Actress for Hepburn at the Cannes Film Festival. Hepburn’s performance earned her an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.

Storyline from IMDb - "Over the course of one day in August 1912, the family of retired actor James Tyrone grapples with the morphine addiction of his wife Mary, the illness of their youngest son Edmund and the alcoholism and debauchery of their older son Jamie. As day turns into night, guilt, anger, despair, and regret threaten to destroy the family."

Just finished up the limited series A Small Light (National Geographic channel); about Miep and Jan Gies, a Dutch couple who risked their lives to shelter Anne Frank's family from the Nazis for more than two years during World War II; excellent!

I watched about 2/3 of it when it was on TCM last week. It was really good and I could see why Ralph Richardson, usually one of my favorites, and Hepburn won awards for this, but it seemed to me like they were saying their lines too fast and jumping from one subject to another without any pause. It must have been a director's choice because they usually don't do that. I had just watched Richardson in "The Heiress" the night before. Did you notice that at all, Bella?

These types of "plays" have a tendency to contain a lot of dialogue. The characters are emotionally unstable, and with their various addictions and psychosis, it's no wonder they had manic behavior, scattered thoughts, and were jumping from one subject to the next at a rapid rate. Definitely intentional. Our job is to try and keep up. ;)

Sometimes ; Always ; Never - Bill Nighy et al - a quirky british film with some jovialty ; sadness and final acceptance of all defects! - if you are a scrabble player you'll just love it!!

Another fabulous novel made into a movie starring Tom Hanks . It’s about a grouchy man who just lost his wife and just wants to die but everyone around him has different plans. They like him and help to change his life. It’s a very inspiring movie. Tom Hanks is an amazingly actor and does a superb job.

I agree. I didn't even get as far as you. The fast talk and curt quips felt like a late 30s-40s Hollywood movie. I realize the events took place during that era, but I couldn't accept that people in Germany, or anybody besides Hollywood actors, talked like that at that time. It just didn't feel authentic to me.

I watched True Grit last weekend filmed in 1969 with John Wayne, Glenn Campbell and Kim Darby, Ive seen this film several times , and always wish I could have a different ending with the Girl marrying Glen Campbell , he should not have died ,😢

On ROKU channel watched Esio Trot a different kind of RomCom as the individuals are seniors. Dustin Hoffman, Dame Judi Dench. James Corden sort of narrates. Had some silly, 'over the top' moments but i would expect no less from the pen of Roald Dahl (he wrote novel the screenplay based on).
It was also an interesting commentary on the things humans will do for love.

The animated movie was fabulous
This mixed movie with blended technology is amazing. Disney really did a great job of recreating this movie. Melissa McCarthy plays the nasty sea witch. The singing and musical parts are so well done. It’s such a cute movie and had me laughing which felt so good.
I highly recommend this movie for those wanting a great fantasy story. It’s really good.

It's called, The Little (not the Littlest) Mermaid and it stars a young actress named Halle Bailey (not the old actress Halle Berry)

Vengeance on Prime. B.J.Novack wrote and starred in it. It had a high rating, definitely not what I would have given it, maybe because it wasn’t what I expected.
