Gay wedding cake Supreme Court case

You love to say queer, don't you @rgp? Your way of saying you're a 'real' man? I need more proof than that.

So now you've resorted to insults ..... I say queer because it is correct .... look it up. When I grew up, gay meant happy ... nothing more.

I won't go into the disgusting behavior of these people, but it is a shame that a lighthearted / happy word would some day be attached to them.

Now ... If you choose to continue down this road of insults .... I can go all day with you.

I once walked into a bar in San Francisco and was immediatly jeered at and told to leave because I was in the wrong place. Someone later told me it was a gay bar but I hadn't known. I've been very obviously not even considered for a job just based on looks before my resume was even glanced at, my resume was blatantly tossed in the trash. I was recently told, by a group of black women that "as a privileged white woman" I had nothing to say to them.
I am sure that's true, bigotry and discrimination are practiced by all sorts of people. Doesn't make it defensible. I think it has its roots in our tribal history, be suspicious of anyone not in your tribe. Probably served some tribes well back in the day. However learning to over come it has been essential to development of modern civilization. And the better we get at it the better off we'll all be.

One significant difference is that the prejudice and discrimination against white Christians has done us less damage. We came out on top.

There have been TV series with the word "queer" in the title as far back as 2003. Remember 'Queer Eye For The Straight Guy' from 2003?

I think it's safe to say it's part of the common vernacular and is used in the acronym LGBTQ+, sometimes written as LGBTQQ+ for queer and questioning. The + is for the dozens of other gender descriptions.

The owner of The Hearts of Atlanta hotel that discriminated against African Americans in 1964 was Moreton Rolleston, a Jewish man.
He was an Attorney also. Such a fine representative of the law. Just proves the cost of law school was well worth it. 😶

Remember the time O.J. went into a restaurant and the man in charge said he was not serving him and his party? His lawyer claimed it was about race! No, it was about the man did not want to serve a murderer. Of course O.J. did not file a civil rights legal complaint!

The biggest thing I remember about O.J. is Robert Kardashian prompting him to make it look as if the gloves didn't fit and O.J. had such a smug look on his face trying to make it look as if it wasn't a perfect fit.

A woman on TV this week said she was the only queer black singer regarding something (Not my area of interest). So assume it is ok for a queer black singer to state she is a queer black singer if she is a queer black singer?

I think it was the Supreme Court's interpretation, when they stated in their decision that the Colorado's Civil Rights court was so hostile to Phillips that they didn't need to hear the case before striking it.

Can you imagine a court of law ridiculing and mocking a gay person, while making a decision? Well according to people who saw the proceedings and read the transcipts that's how they acted about Phillip's religion.

It may come as a big suprise to you but straight, white Christians, are also discriminared against, bullied and not hired for jobs. Knowing we have larger numbers overall doesn't help when being discriminated against or laughed at on an individual basis.

Unfortunately, YES I CAN imagine a court of law ridiculing and mocking a gay person while making a decision. I can imagine any group of individuals mocking and ridiculing just about anyone ‘cause that’s what groups of people do.

I did read that Jack Phillips ruling had been infected by religious animus, inappropriate and dismissive comments were given from the panel. It’s a horrible way to treat anyone.

It comes as no surprise whatsoever that straight white Christian’s are discriminated against, bullied and sometimes not hired. Nobody is immune from discrimination unless they live under a rock or never see other people. That’s life. That’s the ugly part of humanity.

For the longest time I used to think this behaviour came from our ego. Being accepted is one of our most important needs after all but lately I think it’s also got to do with animal instinct.

Animals are known to pick on the weakest of the pack especially while travelling. The weakest tend to slow the pack down which is the reason they get picked on. Throw in our egotistically desire to want to fit in, which I believe is what causes this pack mentality.

Since most of us go through this and understand how devastating it can be, you’d think there’d be more compassionate souls wishing to help resolve this dark side of humanity.

I don’t even wish to share the torturous discrimination I’ve experienced in my life on a continuous bases. This isn’t about me. This is a global problem affecting everyone and I applaud those who step up to the plate to try and create change.

Everyone deserves a life without being discriminated against. Unfortunately I don’t think that will ever happen before we become extinct.

You're incorrigible, Beezer. ;)

"Peppermint Patty is a natural athlete and the manager of her own baseball team. More than simply sporty, Patricia is also a thinker. She spends a lot of time sitting against the ‘thinking tree’ contemplating life and love. She can do just about anything…except study. She’s more sensitive than she lets on and speaks out loudly against any unfair treatment of herself or others. Her adoring father refers to her as his “Rare Gem.”"

I think she is, too.

Not surprised. Heard word "schvartze" a lot growing up. Also heard the names Goodman & Schwerner.

Don't think you got that right.
Moreton Rolleston, owned a number of properties and in every lease he had a clause which clearly stated not to sell or rent to African Americans or Jewish people.

When someone opens a shop to sell to the public…they are providing a public service. That means they are obliged to sell their wares to anyone, except of course if someone is belligerent or trying to cause a fight, then call the police.

There would not be a problem if the gay couple wished to buy stuff already made. Trouble is, they wanted the baker to make a cake … a baker who is rooted in his religious beliefs. He refuses. Personally, I believe he is within his rights to do so…forcing someone to go against their beliefs is not a good thing…but… that does not stop me thinking he is a bigot who is using religion as his shield.
My advice to that couple would be not to mar their beautiful wedding day by having their special cake made by a cowardly homophobe.
Go elsewhere…go in peace…get a decent person to make your cake. Enjoy your wedding!

Cable series Queer As Folk also. There was a British series first. I believe the title is from and old saying. At least that's what I read. Something like 'there is nothing more queer than folk.'

Your post makes the most sense. And as stated earlier in this thread, who'd want to eat something made by someone who so disagreed with you.

Some people boycott Hobby Lobby due to their beliefs. The idiots close on Sundays. I'm no Christian. But I'll shop there if they have what I want. Jerks who own businesses, small and large, abound everywhere. I just don't know it. This one is more pubic.
