Stupid Questions?

There was a conversation about going to the beach and tanning when this White girl asked me "Do Black people get lighter in the sun?" And she was serious! Seriously folks....she was serious! Talk about being young and dumb.
Oh no ya don't, dear Diva... no fair to just stop the story there when we're dying to know how you answered that brilliant question. 🤭 @OneEyedDiva

When I was in a band and 19 yrs old, the drummer convinced me to ask our lead singer "How are you douching?" She was not a happy bear.

P.S. I was completely ignorant of what I was asking her. No sisters..3 brothers...dad was an iron worker. I grew up a little late...if ever. :)

I used to work in a retail store while going to college. A frequent question was

Excuse me. Where is the shoe department?

Do you see that giant word, "Shoes" on the wall over there?

Yes.

I think that's a clue.

I was such a smart ass but my delivery suggested humor rather than sarcasm.
Come to think of it, I was the Pat Sajak (host of TVs Wheel of Fortune) of discount department stores.

Is it possible to create healthy societies with ALL the hubris that is currently ruling the world? Really dumb question...I know. I wonder why I am so fixated by it though. It's the "bleeding heart non-partisan" dreamer in me.

Dumb questions are ones where the answer is obvious if you just look around.

(Using words like hubris in your question elevates it to a higher academic standard.)

But I agree with your viewpoint.

The internet is an ego stroking, tabloid emulating bunch of garbage...with the occasional discussion forum thrown in to keep it real..

My foreman went to Dunkin Donuts for coffee, he must have had problems before because he was very precise. “I would like one large black coffee to go!” The replies from the worker went something like this, “What size, cream or sugar, for here or to go?” He repeated it each time a question was asked of course, monotone. Lol.

This story just makes the case for Artificial Intelligence or at the very least, the kiosk ordering screen coming soon to a Dunkin near you.

Before covid disrupted cruising, there was a TV documentary about the cruise ships that visited Shetland. For those who don't know, the Shetland islands lie 110 miles north of mainland Scotland. Upon disembarking, one lady asked where she could catch the bus to Edinburgh. She refused to believe that it would require a trip to the airport and a 280 mile flight. As she said, "but isn't this Scotland".

Another one asked if they were in Dublin.

After someone asks me the first stupid question, I will answer it and then tell them that that was a stupid question and they are only allowed to ask me three stupid questions, then after that they cannot ask me any more questions. When the ask me a second stupid question I do not answer it and tell them that they cannot ask me anymore questions.
I just cannot bear stupid people.

A dumb medical question. A patient "not me " was going to undergo a new type of colonoscopy procedure, where a tiny little video camera was going to be swallowed by the patient. The camera is about the size of a large vitamin pill and it take dozens of photos as it passes through the patient's digestive tract over a 10 hour period of time. It transmits to a recorder that the patient has strapped to the outside of their abdomen.

The dumb question ......Do you want the camera back afterwards ? Tech says...No you can keep it.

Interesting technology, isn't it ? JimB.
That is a marvelous idea for colonoscopy, compared to the dreaded one.

Yes, BUT.......This one is only used if the previous traditional colonoscopy was unable to visualize the VERY long ( about 30 feet long ) small bowel properly. The cost of each "Flying Eye Ball camera " is about $900.00 each. This procedure starts with the patient swallowing the pill sized camera into their stomach. The process is a endoscopy, not a colonoscopy, but it gets the best results in the small bowel. My problem is super anemia, where my Hemoglobin is VERY low, so the thinking is that I must be leaking blood , someplace. So far, that blood loss location has not been found, despite numerous procedures. JimB.

I'm so sorry, this must be very worrying for you. I hope the cause is found soon.

I have a friend who felt very unwell, lost loads of weight, couldn't work. She had every test including colonoscopy and endoscopy. All they concluded was that she was severely anaemic. They gave iron tablets.
She remained very weak for a long time, a year or so. Then for some mysterious reason she began getting better. Eventually returned to good health and began working again well after retirement age. She recently celebrated her 80th birthday and is fine.

No explanation was ever found. She is not religious, so no miracles. Perhaps the body heals over time. We are miraculously made, our bodies are incredibly capable of self repair.

I get a iron infusion every week by IV. My Hemoglobin is tested at the same time, before the IV goes in. Current number is hovering around 70, while a normal number should be over 160. From March of this year, when the low Hemoglobin number was discovered , I have had 11 units of A positive blood infused, plus 7 units of Plasma infused. Besides the low red blood cell count I have....A pacemaker, COPD, sleep apnea, two inguinal hernias ( that will be operated on in August) and deafness. Wife jokes that my warranty has expired.......Thank goodness for the Canadian medical care system. If we lived in the USA, we would have to sell our house and end up living in a shelter for the elderly. JimB.

That's a lot to deal with.

Are you able to create a clickable link (using the link icon at the top of the box in which you type)? Clickable links are preferable but I know that according to what device you're using, the field for doing so may not show up. In case you aren't, here it is.
