Mitch McConnell stops talking at new conference

McConnell knows right from wrong. He speaks against wrong and then when he has chances to take action against "wrong" he folds. He is clearly an enemy of democracy so he can eff off and die asap.
Although I agree with your assessment of his behavior, I do not wish him harm. That's not who We are .

I agree with others who have said he and a few others (like Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein) should move aside and let someone younger guide the ship. They have plenty of money to comfortably retire but they probably don't have lives outside of politics and they like the power it gives them. We've also all seen the result of Ruth Bader-Ginsberg's refusal to retire, as much respect as I had for her.

My mother used to have both epilepsy and Transient Ischemic Attacks. She would be talking and would just stop, become glazed over and talk nonsense when she started to recover. I'm sure that's what happened to McConnell.
Earlier this week I wondered whether I had had a minor stroke. My eyes were blurry and playing tricks on me and I was very wobbly on my feet. It went on for some hours and a sleep did not banish the effect. Eventually I realised that it was a silent migraine - neurological symptoms but minus the headache. I have had one before but this is not a common occurrence.

In my younger years I suffered from stress-induced full on migraines. My previous week had definitely been quite stressful. I'm not suggesting that Sen McConnell had a silent migraine but I do think diagnosing his health without having the opportunity to examine him is likely to be wrong. Leave that to the medical team. I also think he is entitled to his privacy unless he continues to lose control.

Thought we weren't permitted to discuss politics here.

I have been suspended twice for just mentioning politicians names...

Oh wait I see some are allowed ... others not .... Got it.

But stuff like that is an embarrassment to Americans. Not only is it not funny that our president forgot which close family member a foreign prime minister lost, it doesn't look good for Americans.

American presidents represent the American people. When our president is perceived as feeble, fumbling and weak, so is our country. Accurate or not, that's how it works.
Lol.....let me know when he has 3 or 4 indictments and is throwing ketchup on the walls....then I'll be embarrassed.

Exactly. No one else would get away with thinking Russia's in war with Iraq. It's not like Ukraine is a hard word to remember.

Mixing up words and forgetting names is just something our brains do when we get old. It's not like my mother really couldn't tell the difference between me and my brother, she just would just say the wrong name.
The phrase "war in Iraq" has thousands of paths in an older person's brain. "War in Ukraine," has much fewer so "Iraq," just follows "war in" automatically.

I went blank like that in the middle of talking at a club meeting a few years ago. I just had a "sinking spell" because I'd been up since five and hadn't eaten anything. My friend lost her bearing last winter when she had a bladder infection. It can be any number of things.

I'm in no hurry for our older politicians, on either side of the aisle, to retire. I'm afraid they'll be replaced by someone younger, and worse.

To briefly play devils advocate not only have both had medical issues over the last few years but this shows how a political office works. They delegate and wind up being handled sometimes literally. There are too many issues and bills the only thing they will know about is from a a minute or two briefing before a meeting or vote. One must be a quick study on issues they have no experience with or knowledge of. Also a good memory.

In some respects this shows how things really or what really goes on in that the politician is waiting for advice or instruction as usual. Doesn't excuse their behavior or health but gives a glimpse of how things really work

Your insight is fascinating. I looked up the importance of the politician's staff. They are vital in many aspects of the politicians' "success"'

What if these politicians are just advertising figures for the political direction of the party machines. There are told how to act, where to go, how best to vote, how to dress, etc. They may be mere "symbols" that best match the parties platforms. So much money is involved from huge donors to keep policies that will win elections. It is a war, and the top brass are usually just figure heads. Some try to stay true to their own values and "promises", but are quickly pushed into the bureaucratic complexity. The staff is doing most all the hard labor, not the politician. Maybe we ought to understand the the power plays being fought behind the scenes...drain the swamp...in what ever direction you like, But, people HAVE to become active in State and local polices.

My first thought was TIA.....Transitory Ischemia Attack, where a temporary low blood flow condition causes a person to be confused. Look it up.

Age does not equal stupid, although our current Prime Minister at age 46 has been voted the "Worst Prime Minister in 60 years ", in a recent survey of Canadian voters. Interestingly, his FATHER Pierre, was voted the BEST PM of the past 60 years, in that same survey. Scratching my head over that one.....JimB.

I have the same viewpoint for all doctors, whether they are surgeons or just the person that prescribes medications. At some point the pharmacist also, needs to be locked out of the building so the wrong pill isn't put in your bottle.

Happened today. No news for if something medical happened. After it was obvious something was wrong others led him away.

As an older person, my viewpoint is that these politicians and judges should retire from these public positions maybe before the age of 75 or younger.

I can tell that my brain is not what it was, and the best and brightest should be the leaders.
I heard that he was ok, yesterday, and that it was not a medical thing. Let's hope he is ok.

I'm pretty sure that he was just remembering where he put his keys. Happens to all of us.

I wish they'd ALL stop talking. For an hour, at least. Just think, one hour of blissful radio silence. An hour without "YOU'RE WRONG!" .... "NO, YOU'RE WRONG!"...."WELL, YOU'RE A BIG DOODY-HEAD!"....."OH, YEAH, WELL, YOU'RE A BIGGER DOODY-HEAD!" but, of course, couched in much more genteel terms...
DOODY-HEAD. hahahahahhhahaa, (breath) hahahhhaaa...:ROFLMAO:

Looks like commercial pilots are forced to retire at 65. Japan up to age 68. If you have your own plane you can fly as long as you want.

Not really. The FAA has medical testing for private pilots, too once they reach a certain age.. Look it up. Your blanket statement is incorrect. JImB.

You are likely correct. I had just seen a link for the oldest pilot and he was 100.

One of the currently licensed pilots that I would never fly with........Harrison Ford. He has had a number of close calls in recent years, including landing on the wrong runway, and taxiing across an active runway, despite being warned TWICE by the tower, not to do so https://www.wideopencountry.com/rar...g the taxiway for, call to air traffic control.

He needs to hang up his flying career before he kills somebody, including himself. JImB.

I disagree on setting an age limit for these jobs. But I agree that a person must be physically and mentally capable of doing what is required for the job. Age is one aspect of that consideration. I suggest something like this could be developed...

At some age, say 65 or even 69, all elected officials must pass an annual competency test. This would include a comprehensive physical examination, cognitive testing including problem solving. These tests could be reviewed by a small group of qualified physicians. The names of who the results are from will not be included, only a unique number. These tests are never perfect, and a few may be retired, before they should be. But this is less risky than letting someone impaired continuing to lead.

Some will pass, some will not! Those who lose will be retired. I bet most who are at risk, will retire prior to taking the tests....they know they are at risk...

I do not like using only age as the sole requirement because many older people have served for many years and still are sharp as a tack! That level of experience is priceless to our government...we have to keep them in office!
