Wrestling, Am I the Only One Who Finds it a Total Waste of Time?

Still love 50's & 60's music!
I watched it when I was a child. But when I began to learn that it's all fake, then I began to lose interest in it. After all of these years, it's still on prime time 2 or 3 nights a week. When I was younger, it was on television during the weekend, and in the afternoon.

You have some fat sweaty blow hard bragging about being the champion. Big deal! He's champion because the promoter says he can be champion, until he wants to improve the ratings. The viewers and the people who attend the live events all know it's fake, yet they still pay to watch the nonsense in person.

Many years ago when I was living in New York CIty, I worked with a wrestling fan, who attended the live events. I asked him one day if wrestling fans know that it's fake. He said that he does and so do other wrestling fans. I then asked him why do people pay money to watch it in person then. He said that he had discussed with other wrestling fans before. He said that they watch it so they can cheer the good guys, and boo the bad guys. He claimed that they enjoyed doing that.

I was pretty much into it when I was around 18-21... then I got married and watched because it was on the TV when the matches were going on. After that the interest quickly faded because of the fake junk and I haven't watched since I was about 25.

It was a foregone conclusion that Andre ( who suffered with uncontrolled body growth ) would die at middle age. He liked living in Montreal where as a French speaker, he was more at home than in the USA. Everything about him was "bigger than life ". JimB.

Best "match" ever; it's like a dance

Yes it is. A very practiced and disciplined dance. A different kind of Ballet...with a lot of physical content. They make it big when they can have an outrageous personality and put on a show. It is not fake. It is planned entertainment and very choreographed. I was a "Roller Derby" fanatic. I thought it was a real sport!! Not fake. When I found out it was planned I was shocked, like when I found out Santa wasn't real. :)

No..like the OP...we used to watch it as children on TV..until we discovered it was all fake.

By the time the rest of the viewers realised it was all a sham, they'd stopped broadcasting it any more. I haven't seen it on our networks for decades..

30 years ago son was active in bowling & one league invited Wrestling Superstars Every Week. They promised Ultimate Warrior would show up at last event, but alas! he did not. Had a thing for him since I heard him say to Macho Man Randy Savage "We walk Not Together. We walk apart." That really turned me on for some reason. Warrior was so poetic at times!

It's still popular, mostly with men from 17 to 50. You can still find wrestling figures in department store toy isles, bought mostly by men 17 to 50.

If you think it looks fake on TV you should see it live! I was never interested in it but my son liked it when he was very young so I took him and some friends to a match. Hulk Hogan, Eddie Gurearo, Undertaker, some big time names were there. The boys all came away disappointed because it was so obviously fake.

I will say this though, those stunts take some athleticism and conditioning, it may be silly entertainment but most of those people are still athletes.
