This afternoon, I've been in talks with the owner of an apartment that I would be interested in... She's still living there with her family but has it for sale... .

It's a 15 year old top floor apartment in a block with 3 floors with a lift

It has a large balcony which overlooks a Cathedral. That's all I'm saying for now.. It's quite a long way from here.. and is in a town centre position.. completely opposite to this as you can get..

We've been mailing back and forth this afternoon, and she has a couple of things she needs to check out on my request, before we can go any further with this, but beyond viewing in person... this sounds and looks like a potential for me...

If it’s meant for you, @hollydolly, I pray it’s an easy purchase and transition. You are due for something nice to happen! 😊

Happy Friday everyone !!! :)
Enjoying a cup of coffee, listening to music and studying the boy dog, Mason.
Just trying to learn how to Sofa. Apparently I've been doing it wrong

Without knowing details or seeing it and even with just the idea of such a place, I'm here to say...how many thumbs up(y)(y) can I give this?

Is it convenient to places you'd want to go, like the City? Will there be a guest room for me?

You'll need to start downsizing two months ago, though. Or maybe a year ago.

Oh. I'm home. DS and DSIL picked me up earlier, and we went to lunch at our fave Mexican restaurant. Mom's treat because almost every time they've come here, they bring lunch. Figured it was time for me to pony up. It was delicious, as usual, but I am so full that I won't need to eat again until a week from next Tuesday.

Mother Nature still loves us. It's only 85 with a feels-like temp of 85. The heat is supposed to return tomorrow but still relatively low humidity. Still no rain in sight. I can handle it!

Well here I am at 2am in the morning....for some dang reason i cannot get to sleep.....went to bed at 10pm....and I took my sleep meds...but for whatever reason I just cannot get to sleep....could be I let the house get too warm...dunno but sure don't like this......:(
Ohhh, Don. You need some lullabies. Here's over 3 hours of peaceful, drowsy sleep inducing sounds.

Took Doggie Delight for our walk. Sunny and warm but cool in the wooded paths.

Dumped some trash, portioned off yesterdays haul of chicken and other stuff for the freezer, cooked Doggie's package of hearts and gizzards. Now they're cooling off to be ground and mixed with some pumpkin and a little oatmeal for her dinners.

Washed dishes. Ho hum.

Yesterday it hit 107 and our power went out!!! They predicted it would be off for 6 hours!! We packed up and went to our daughter"s house to wait it out..Came back on after 3 hours,,

..
We've been pretty fortunate this year....so far no power outages. Knock on wood. ;) August is our hottest month, with all those 3 digit temps. Looks like you're enduring the same..

I tell you Gigi..you couldn't be more right about the downsizing.. ..I was thinking about how much I'll have to get rid of.. and it's skeeeery.... a huge undertaking on my own tbh..

Yes it's very convenient for the city centre... couldn't be in a better position tbh... I can walk into the city in minutes ...and of course there's a room for you..do you think I would even consider a property without a spare room for my favourite GiGI..?:D

especially in a penthouse apartment...albeit on 3 floors high...but remember the big balcony..:D

Please tell me it has central air conditioning. The higher-the hotter.

Today I am pleased with myself.. because... I have a Brick shed that has 2 separate doors. They've always been a bit of a PITA because the doors drop a little, and then the Barrel bolts at the bottom don't marry up.. and so then I have to use a big boulder to keep the doors closed.. (the doors open outwards) ( this isn't my main shed doors which has a key)>.

The doors are far too heavy for me to try and lift them up the inch or 2 that's needed to get the bolts to slide into the hook.. In the past the O/H always did it.. he had the strength.. and we only keep Paint and petrol cans and a car jack in them anyway.. but a couple of years ago there was mice nesting in there because once I'd opened the doors..they doors wouldn't latch up again properly.. and the mice got in... so since then I;ve kept them closed semi tightly with a brick..but hedgehogs push the bricks out of the way

Today.. I had a Brain wave.:geek:. there's a metal bar in the Barn.. I don't know what it's for, it belongs to the estranged wotsit...but with that, I was able to slip one end under each door, and stand on the other end to prise the door up, which enabled the bolts to slide home. They were very stiff but I hit them gently with a mallet and Voila... closed firmly... I'm chuffed... 👍

I don't think it has tbh... I'll check on that ..in a second I'll go and look at the specs... ...most houses don't have AC here Rose..

ETA...no, as I suspected..it doesn't..

However it does have an ensuite toilet and shower room..which I don't have here.. so that's made me happy...

Good point with regard the heat rising.. but this apartment has floor to ceiling windows and French sliding doors.. so I can keep them open when it's hot... Anyway mustn't get ahead of myself, I still have questions which require answers and if they are to my satisfaction then I have to travel to view...

Does she have some sort of scratcher, that she likes to use, anyway on her own? In place of needing to use emery boards, which lengthen the process?
Mine loves her rope/twine pad, and actually often runs over to it, soon after the nails are clipped.
It at least eliminates that extra step, for both her and for me.
😺 ☺️
Yes Kaila. She has 3 scratchers. The first one my son bought when we first got her is a post with material that resembles carpet. I think she may have only used it a couple of times. She mostly played with the whiffle ball I attached, or when she was little, slept on the base of it. Then I bought her the corrugated cardboard type, first a flat one, then one with a wave design. She uses those all the time in addition to the sides of my recliner. The material on that doesn't even show wear from her scratching. But usually I stop her almost immediately after she starts.

Truthfully, I didn't realize the scratching pads could take the place of having her nails smoothed with an emery board!

Today was a busy, fun day. My son and I both had eye appointments with our glaucoma specialist. We got there a little early and it was like walking into the Twilight Zone. I have never seen the waiting room so empty! My exam was good, she's very happy with my eye pressures and I saw further down on the eye chart than I ever have (with one eye at least).

When we left there, my son surprised me and took me for lunch at the diner that has my favorite crab cakes. After enjoying our meals, he took me to the Dollar Tree I prefer (we're near several). I only had to get a couple of items. After that I went to Big Lots to get a sponge mop. Seems I got the last one.

Now I'm going on Facebook where there's a link for our friend's memorial service. I'm tired, so I don't know if I'll view the entire thing tonight.
My friends....

This morning, I went to the senior center and listened to the director of the board of the commission on aging (the nonprofit organization that is in charge of the senior center). I found out they were not getting enough funding to pay for all the Meals on Wheels recipients, so they have a waiting list of 500 people, and 15 have already died! I was so overcome. I mentioned to them different possibilities for fundraisers. I also learned that other cities have more than one senior center, which I found interesting.

One woman who sat next to me mentioned to them that she had helped raise money to build a free library in the area, and she gave them good tips about going to the county and hounding them for more money. She also suggested putting up a poster in the lobby for the Meals on Wheels program to get donations.

More topics were discussed. It was a very productive meeting and I hope our ideas come to fruition.

Now I see the senior center differently, from their eyes. Now I will start attending the county meetings to see what it's all about and become more active there.

I came home energized. I painted while listening to music, then worked on my classes which start next week.

Sounds exciting, @hollydolly! I hope all goes well with your endeavor. Being close to the town centre is a brilliant idea.
