You Know You're Old When...

It's hard for me to reach out to people that are/have been going through a major life event like becoming widowed. I want to let them know that I care, but I don't want to intrude....does that make any sense?
Can we get you to try to get them to reach out to Jesus, in times like these. Sometimes people get caught up in their own emotions and can't see no other way out. If they need a quiet shoulder to lean own, Jesus is ready to listen. And I know he can help. Just send them a quiet text "Jesus loves you".

You know you're old when you look at the obits and always know someone in there. :(
I still have 5 years to go until I'm even 70, so I dread what it will be like as it gets worse
year after year.
Five years to go until 70?? You're still in your prime dear girl. Don't think about the future there's no guarantee we will see it. Get up each morning and say "Thanks for another day. Each day will bring me sunshine and roses." Meet up with old friends and have a Coffee , I do this whenever I can. We also have a good laugh as this is the best medicine.

What about Paul McCartney, he turned 80 last year and I think The Beatles were the best Rock Band ever! If you don't know who The Beatles are, you're TOO YOUNG!
Paul Who? Only kidding, when the world and his dog were going Beatlemania crazy I had, ten years earlier, as a young teenager, discovered the American craze of Swing.
How I loved it, still do. The Jitterbug and other jive dances were great after the more formal rules of Latin & Ballroom. Dance has always been a passion of mine. Shame I can't show you any film but, back in 2009, we were in Glasgow at a rather good vintage function, like I said, there's no film but this write up will make you smile. remote cards: Old Folk Dancing Like They Were Young Again

What makes me feel old is making a list of all the things I need to do today. Then I get up from the chair and realize I can't do certain things like I planned. Bad knees are hurting when I stand up or walk. Or the Lymphedema has my feet swollen up and I need to put my feet up for awhile (which is like wasting time when I have things I wanted to do).
I hear you. I have aches and pains that aren't the little aches that used to be nothing to worry about. They are the aches that I put off until I know that surgery and therapy are coming up again.

Trust me, Kate, it won't get worse. I still keep thinking that I am 49 years old, so steer away from mirrors. :) But seriously, there's no doubt that various ailments will come your way in the next thirty-five years (or maybe not. They did in my case) but it is astounding how resilient the human spirit is and how quickly one tends to adapt to everything. I won't bother you again with all the things that are wrong with me at 87 but I am utterly sincere when I say that I enjoy every day to the hilt! The trick is to have hobbies that will occupy your day! Being on this forum is one of them!
I love it! I love your positivity because that is how I view life being in the early 70's. I just adjust and still enjoy life!

Amen! Jesus will always be there to help, and He always has a word or two of encouragement to help when we feel down.

My love of "swing" goes back a bit further than yours, @horseless carriage, to Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw! And I loved watching jitterbug, still do!

Now here is something that will cause a great deal of protest: I heartily dislike it when old folks dance as if they were young! I know, I am a stick in the mud, but I always cringe when I see that. To me it lacks dignity and I want to shout: Act your age! Okay, I am now ready for a barrage of protests!

Best look away now:

Watch this Rumba. Our dance instructor carefully re-choreographed it to suit our older selves. It never fails to get an enthusiastic reception.

I know that I'm pretty well alone in my views re. older folks jitterbugging. I am trying to be happy for those who enjoy these things but, at the same time, I am not comfortable watching them. Dignity looms large in my life! A slow dance is great with me, so never say I don't compromise!
