What are you doing today 2023

Hope this does not bore you but it is a different day for me...a day of decision.

Today….
I have an appointment to tour a senior retirement residence. A friend is accompanying me and of course lunch is included in tour. It is not what I want to do as these homes are ridiculously priced and the style of living does not really appeal to me but I have to give it a shot.

I and my neighbours have been and still are going through h*ll with noise and disruption due to building renovations and still more to come. That and the fact that my old vinyl floor is bumpy here and there and I have stumbled a few times. If I complain to management they have the right to evict me to replace the floor so mums the word and care in walking. I would have to move out completely and find another apartment. Duh!

Also, lately I have been feeling that ‘keeping house’ and light cooking is beginning to tire me more and of course I still have all the body problems which at my age will never get any better. Cleaning lady not needed every day but would be nice to have my meals prepared for me etc., etc., Some of you nearing my age know what I mean.
A daily lady would be nice for general work

So, I looked at my savings and realized that I should be spending them to make my life easier rather than have them sitting there …for what.
That is the question I asked myself - For What??.

I need to spend it now to make my life more comfortable

Not enough of them to last me indefinitely in a residence but maybe for a couple of years depending on cost.
Of course, I could pop my clogs anytime but there is no guarantee on that. If I live beyond it will have to be Govt. old age home.
More duhs !!!

Well, I am still mulling over this brain storm but after visit and some more thought plus friend’s viewpoint ( she is nearing the same stage in her life) and perhaps some forum friends I hopefully will get it settled one way or another.

Will keep you posted on my thoughts…may be useful for others eh!

@Mizmo, I am not close to doing that. I am younger than you and have a hard time taking care of the house, cooking. That is why I bulk cook enough to last a few days. As far as the house goes, it is not as neat and clean as it was but it will just have to do.

I want a place where I can have a nice little apartment and they are dining facilities available as needed, Take your time and find the right place for you.

Be really careful on that floor. Also think about the type of shoe you wear in the house. Some are prone to stub against any little thing. Of course you may be like me, I don't wear shoes in the house. The doctor even fusses about that. LOL

Could you do senior assisted living in a complex. It's not the same as a retirement home, it's more like a small apartment in a group. I think there are agencies that will come to your house and help out with daily things. My sister used to do it for clients.

Yes we have those seniors only apartments with daily help but try and get in to one of those.
Last one I called had 93 on waiting list.
I don't much care for them. Would rather stay where I am in regular building and pay for help if it comes to that.
As I said time to spend the money....:)

Yes that is ideal but there is no such thing available.
I would like to lodge in a hotel. ..perfect!...but hotels don't want old seniors on a long term booking.

I have nerve damage so never walk barefoot.

Hotels here often have old people as long term residents. it suits the resident, because they basically have everything done for the. Housekeeping, and cooking..and help at the end of a room phone..

There are also stories of elderly who go on cruises and stay on them all year round.. good food, clean rooms... constant entertainment when thye want it, meeting new people all year round, it actually works out cheaper than residential care

I'm in a snit. An 8-cylinder 2023 Snit!

TL has been doing things that create more work for me. I'm trying to be charitable because she's only been there 6-8 weeks, but geez! She's been with the company for 23 years. 23. And I don't give a rat's rear how it was done in Dallas. We're not in Dallas. Also being very careful to not throw her under the bus, but the stuff she DOESN'T do makes it appear that I'm not doing MY job.

Deliver me. I don't wanna quit because I like my job and because I'm at a place now where the paycheck is all mine. Whoever heard of "extra" money? LOL I like extra money, yanno for buying a lamp and stuff:)

Oh, well. DS and DSIL are coming for lunch. Visiting with them makes everything better:love::)

She will probably treasure that running horse, doubly, :)
both because she loves horses, and because you, yourself, made it, and specifically for her. Which will remind her of you, and likely become even more meaningful to her, in that regard, during some future times. Very nice gift!

Wasn't it noticed when you were off sick ?

Wasn't it noticed when you were off sick ?
No because Sir and I were both out sick so anything that didn't get done went unnoticed or ignored due to the circumstances.

I left her a note today with what MUST be done today and how to do it. Asked deli manager to try to keep an eye on her. I got a sense that deli manager and Sir have both noticed, but she wouldn't say anything to me, of course, nor would he.

I hope SOMEBODY notices!

She's also very negative...critical of Sir/ the company/ deli manager, suspicious of the food pantry rep who comes three times a week and has said that she thinks the rep takes the stuff she wants from our donations and sells it. What? That's nuts. It's all labeled "donation." The company is very selective about what food pantries they donate to, and they have to meet a lot of requirements, company has to abide by laws governing food donations. The one we donate to has been vetted and verified. We call the rep the "church lady."

Thanx for letting me vent. I feel better now.

Well it's Friday. A good thing and a sad one as well...

Good stuff, did groceries with daughter this am. Glad we went out early as by the time we came back, the 6am peasouper fog, woken up by CoffeeBean, he thinking the knock was in our door (nope neighbour) went back to bed with kitty on chest.

Woke up at 10 and got ready for going out. Went to Aldi's, got good load. By the time we came back, the temp was 28.5°C. Thankfully, I'd opened the windows but left curtains and blinds closed. Indoors temp was 22.5°C.

Had a delicious Rainbow Salad for lunch with the juiciest Roast Beef Trimmings pack, leftover Caesar salad dressing and Parmigiano cheese with a buttered slice of toast. Scottish cherries and banana with honey and Greek style yoghurt for dessert.

Daughter's out to corner shop to pick up extra bag of ice cubes. Made ice tea but as it's so hot in the house, the brew's not cool enough to drink yet. Bummer!

Dinner are two fisherman's pies, with planned banana/honey smoothies. Next week groceries are the stuff we've missed on list 😂😂😂 nothing new there, plus catfood haul for CoffeeBean. 80 box Sheba Poultry/Fish lasts two full months. He's a jelly monster. Iams dry lasts three months as well. Good kitty, slim and trim LOL!

Did a batch of laundry as coming back home we were soaked in sweat eheheh. It's out on line.

Currently in front of mini AC cube watching the remaining Bond 007 films, onto "Tomorrow Never Dies" with Pierce Brosnan. Hoping that future films will be with Tom Hiddleston after Daniel Craig hands over is PPK. 🤞🤞🤞Woof!

The sad part, it's already a year that we've lost our precious Queen Elizabeth II! 😭

Your menus are making me salivate! Sounds yummy. 🍒
Thanks! We like simple meals in-line with energy spent during the day. Hot weather makes us feel dry, so salty foods such as fish pie and as it's summer weather always go crazy with the fruits. Combining dairy for extra calcium, smoothies are a simple yet great wee dessert.

Cheers!

Today I am freaking out......cannot gain access to my online
bank acc'ts....!!! Even got ahold of a i.t. assistant and he could
not get me online with my accounts.....why me Lord?????
Happened to me once. I called my bank, for a a service manager, and he gave me the explanation. In my case, I'd made an online purchase (which, by the way, worked out fine) from someone in a Third-World country. The online-banking system's oversight IT people had flagged the e-transfer, concerned that my account had been hacked. Once I reassured the service manager, informing what the situation was, he quickly got everything cleared up & back to normal.

Lunch was perfect. It's a nice cool day so we ate outside. All's right in my world now :) .

Almost. It's not Sunday; therefore, I don't have a new lamp yet. Patience is a virtue, right? Yeah. And virtue is its own reward. Pffft.
