I don't usually talk about my Mom a lot, but her appointment yesterday was very upsetting. For years I've been telling her that her eye doctor was really bad and she should try my eye doctor...but she wouldn't listen to me. (now I know where I get my stubbornness from!). Well, her doctor suddenly "retired", so she finally agreed to see my eye doctor.
As you may have guessed, things did not turn out well. Her former doctor was not actually treating her, but did just enough so that she would have to keep coming back....and of course, keep paying him.
My doctor couldn't believe the descepancies that she saw in my Mom's chart!!! For one thing, she's needed stronger glasses for years, but her old doctor kept telling her that she did great on her vision tests! (My doctor kept on asking my Mom if she was
sure that those were her glasses and not someone else's!). Also, her old doctor took her off of her glaucoma medicine, telling that she didn't need it anymore. Yesterday, my doctor told her that her glaucoma was left untreated for so long that she is nearly blind in one eye!!!
The atrocities go on and on...I can't even list them all! When we left the eye doctor yesterday, the first thing my Mom said was "Wow! I've never had such a thorough check up on my eyes before! That doctor was so nice and so caring!!"
So, as of today, my Mom is doing an intense glaucoma treatment....4 different medications each day, with a total of 8 drops/treatment each day. The hope is that we can undo all of the damage that her old doctor caused.
I've been very upset, and not able to think straight all day. I'm glad she is finally seeing a doctor who will actually take care of her.....I just hope it's not too late.
