Change banks....!
Maybe when more people received statements they would do multiple batches and yours was part of the first batch, and maybe now there are so few people wanting paper statements that they wait and do one mailing later? Just random guessing here.I used to receive a statement from my bank through snail mail that, a year ago, would arrive on the business day closest to or on the fifth of the month. Now I'm getting them no earlier than the 9th.
You are right about "Lest y'all have the mistaken impression that Deb isn't intellectually capable of moving into the 21st century, disabuse yourselves of that notion. She's an intelligent and well-educated, retired professional woman.
Also lives alone & has some unique problems she posts about. Trying to help by offering suggestions more often than not meets with " But, can't, don't and won't are words you'll find used liberally in her posts!"She's an intelligent and well-educated, retired professional woman."
Yup. The 'trick' is, and I assume you do, is to be sure to take a look at everything online to be sure everything was paid. And, we jumped on using a credit card to pay for everything possible ---- it means everything you pay for is 2%-5% cash back, depending on your card.I am in my 80's but embrace the 21st century. I have gone totally paperless, except for year end statements when doing my taxes. I use a credit card almost exclusively, and also use autopay.
The concept of being so paranoid about a bill that I have to rush to the post office to pay it is totally foreign to me.
That is too bad, I was going to order it for you and have it sent to you. Oh wellThanks, but:
1) I can't order online
2) it's down in the basement someplace and right now I don't have the ambition to look for it.
My current bank charges $7 per mailed statement per month. If you need a printed statement from the bank on a special occasion it's $15 per page. If they need to go back in time beyond a certain point, there is an extra charge for that. I don't much care for this new bank, but where I am choices are limited and it would be a major hassle to change direct deposits. There is a new upstart bank coming to the area, but in my experience after a couple of years they too wind up being swallowed by a major national bank.I got out the last two statements and they were both issued on the last day of the month (July 31 and Aug 31). There's no postmarks on the envelopes, so I can't actually say when they were posted.
I have received no communications about going paperless, although my electricity supplier adds almost a dollar to my bill for preparing a paper bill be mailed to me. There's just something about having a statement on paper. What if my Internet service went down or my computer broke?
I agree with your conclusion. Not only that, however. And, it was very concerning. I often got the wrong mail, including others' monthly bank statements delivered to me. I am sure mine, too, was delivered to others. So, I stopped receiving bank statements in the mail and switched to internet delivery. Now I get my statements delivered to me dependably and always at the same time each month. And, I switched my paid bills from using stamps for them to auto-pay with automatic debits from my checking account. That way I am no longer paying for nor supporting our increasingly incompetent mail system. Vote with your feet. Better that way.The US Postal Service has repeatedly warned that it is slowing down mail - on purpose it seems. It is likely not the bank's fault but you might ask them if they have changed their mailing date. To be honest, I haven't ever kept track of when I get my statements but my DH and I both have separate Credit Union accounts and the statements will often come on different days - not sure why. I do know that I did not receive my life insurance premium bill last quarter and had to call to make sure I could get a payment in on time. I blame the USPS.
It's time for Windows 10 or 11. You can always go to the bank and ask a print out of your bank statement. I have that in the past.I barely have a computer. I actually have 3 printers, one is a laser, but it's so old I can't find toner cartridges for it and the other 2 won't run with Windows 7.
It isn't about 'your neighborhood' being honest. Not really. I've never has a problem. My new neighborhood seem to be comprised of law-abiding, upper-middle class people who mind their own business.
Ya, the USPS sucks. They can't even put mail at the right house anymore. They aren't doing it on purpose, they just don't care to do it right. All they cre about is that fat government pension they will get for doing a mediocre job.I agree with your conclusion. Not only that, however. And, it was very concerning. Actually, postal workers get a very poor pension. No longer do they get civil service pensions. That went away in 1987. Now they get social security and have a 401k (it has a different number for them) plan that the government matches a per centage of. The problem is that there simply is not pride in their work. No incentive to do a better job. It is just a low pay, dead end job which no one gets recognized for doing well.Ya, the USPS sucks. They can't even put mail at the right house anymore.
