Admin - please reenforce “no politics.”

After reading this thread I noticed a window for an item by/about an opiinated and repugnant Australian journalist.
The irony brought me back to post here.

I‘ve seen a group similar to this ( Soc.Retirement) destroyed by politics. The managers of this forum clearly understand the danger. As long as we steer clear of names of politicians and parties and obvious references to either we should be OK, and that seems to be the understanding of those who post here.

What’s the most terrifying word at a nuclear power plant?

“Oops!” ............(y)..........

That's meant as a Joke of course. Oops! haha
One day when Ai has the say I wonder what word it will use when it's F'd kup too.

But you know its all about cool words and timing.

The first 5 florists I called from the phone book knew nothing about carpet or tile...
being an old Geezer has its advantages! haha

Jeebus. For those who wish to "discuss" politics:

Question #1 - Have you ever changed your mind/opinion about a political issue based on someone else's online comment??
Universal answer #1: Hell NO

Question #2 - Have you changed someone else's mind/opinion based on what you posted?
Universal Answer #2: see universal answer #1

I come here to get away from politics and other mindless bickering. But it only takes a couple of folks to ruin an otherwise friendly web site.
To summarize.....
No one has changed their mind from the words of a sign......

To some people, complaining about politics is only when others don't see their views.
World issues should be talked about and if there is some aspect of politicas, then so be it, just keep it cordial and not the focus.
Everyone is triggered these days.

I think if we keep topics to 'rainbows and butterflies' we could stay away from politics.
Topics like 'regularity of bowel movements', or 'where to get 5 cents off metamucil', would keep discussions safe. But is that what we really want?

This was resolved yesterday in this very thread. "No Politics" rule applies to American partisan politics and not all the other things some people are trying to make it mean. Should be an easy enough rule to follow because I've been here almost a year and haven't seen any ugly back and forth partisan bickering here.

So ONLY American politics?
Doubt it will ever be 'resolved'.

It's challenging to precisely define the scope of political discussions. We implemented this rule in response to the 2016 presidential election, where discussions became overly heated and divisive. The original intent of this rule was to eliminate partisan American politics from the board; we have no intention of extending the ban further.

In essence, 'no politics' means no American partisan politics. If we can tell if the poster is a Republican or Democrat, it's considered political. Obviously this leaves a lot to discuss, but we believe it's in the best interest of the forum to remove divisive political content while retaining a sense of enjoyment.

Please keep in mind that this is a community, and we depend on member reports to moderate the forum. If a post criticizing Biden was removed while one criticizing Trump wasn't, it's solely because the former post was reported, allowing us to take action.

Regarding politics in other countries, no complaint, no actions.
It is nice to see we have a healthy dialog in this country. Both good and bad.
What makes this a difficult task to manage is to leave your views out of the assessment.
Hopefully, you are quick to denounce views that you personally agree with, but as a moderator, you must stay neutral. I know, I couldn't do it. Takes a certain temperament.

lol - waaay back on my post #9, I attempted to point out the futility of political "discussions" on line, since nobody ever changes their mind about anything. Most of you understand. Nothing is resolved, and it is indeed pointless.

And this thread, where folks want to bicker about not being able to bicker about politics, makes that abundantly clear to, well, almost everyone....

I don’t know the difference between a Republican or Democrat so I guess I’m ok.
The only time I use the word trump is when I am referring to outranking . 😅
I had to look up partisan “ A partisan is someone who supports one part or party”
example - a political follower

Check! Yayyy I don’t follow anyone 😊

It may not be easy to stay neutral when it comes to politics, but I don't have to when politics is not allowed. If a post talks badly about Biden, my only option is removing it regardless of my stand.

As someone who hails from Europe, I don’t know the difference between Republican and Democrat either. Other than is it seems a bit two dimensional to me. Whatever happened to three dimensional politics.

As for ‘partisan’, I used to think it was referring to a cheese!

Oh, oh no. Thats a different spelling and pronunciation. Ok I’ve got it now.

Parmesan…. Hmmm?… Parmesan politics; it’s all very confusing to me.

Haha. Well I definitely wasn’t expecting anyone else to honestly admit that so thanks. ☺️

I thought Partisan was something like Egyptian but without the ‘ i .’ 🤓

Like yourself, I prefer 3 dimensional 😆
We have more in common than I realized. Lol
