Today was laundry day...in the middle of the night, as usual. I didn't start drying the clothes til about 8 though. I wound up drying them longer than necessary because I kept napping. I put the hanger items away but left the clothes in the basket for tomorrow. I caught up with some posts here, sent out a couple of PMs then had to get ready to go to Costco. I took an afternoon shower and got dressed just in time, so I was ready when my son got here.

We were on the road just before rush hour traffic started. I picked up my new glasses. Haven't "worn" them yet but tried them on there, of course. These Transitions that turn a gray tint, then darned near black in full sun, get much darker than my old pair, which had a brown tint then got dark brown. The sales person did something to make them dark so I could see. We did quick shopping because I only had a few items on my list. Both of us were pleasantly surprised that even though we hit rush hour traffic, it wasn't bad at all. After we got home, I put everything away, heated up the bean soup he had made, then fell asleep again.

Furryanimal, I thought that the idea of scrapping landlines had been put on hold because of various issues, mainly the need to provide emergency contact if there was a power cut. I got rid of BT as the internet ran at about the speed of a dead snail encased in concrete. They simply don't care about providing fibre broadband to remote communities (Even a BT engineer I spoke to agreed with that).

I use a 4G hub to provide a usable connection, 10-20 times the BT speed. The problem with that is if there's a power cut, it often affects the local mobile mast, so no communications at all, unless you keep a carrier pigeon.

Anyway, after yesterday's log stacking session, I'm a bit stiff and creaky. I got the campervan back from the garage after having its annual check up and a new spring put in the front suspension - more unwelcome expense! Today, there's shopping to be done so it's off to town. Weather looks to be dry, but V cold with overnight frost.

Funny you should mention this, I;ve literally just been reading this in the Mirror...

Old UK landlines being axed in 28 locations next year under huge shake-up

Working on my old computer again today. I was thinking of throwing it out because I could not get the screen to light up last time I used it and that was why I bought a new one. That was in 2021. I took it out of the box and powered it up.......it came on! So there are some things I would like to do with it. Was on it all day yesterday.

Got to disconnect my current broadband equipment and install the new stuff BT have sent me….all in connection with the change to the way landlines work here.Everyone has to be set up by early 2025 or their landline will stop working.
So that’s 4 iPads to put a new password on and the printer to sync up with the new hub….and I’ve got to get down on the floor because of where the phone inlet is….with my knees getting up again will be interesting!
Anyway,if I disappear it all went wrong!
All done..I’m still here but it was purgatory getting the printer connected to the network!

Yesterday, we were in town for over 6 hours! My expected 6 stops in town yesterday was actually 11.....it was quite an exhausting day, and I was very happy to finally go home.

On the bright side: one of the stops today was at a place called Vision Express. I've never been in there, but I need new bifocals (for reading) and I have been checking prices at various places. I couldn't believe it! Their prices were HALF of everyone else's!!!!! HALF!!!! I don't want my new glasses until after the New Year, but I've already picked out my frames and I'm ready to go!

I made Ham & Bean soup last Monday, but it turns out that I had soaked twice as many beans as I needed. So today I will set up the crockpot and make a second batch. The first batch was a bit salty (I used broth), this batch will be made with water.

Vision Express is one of our Major high street opticians.. they have cheap frames and lenses.. often 2 for the price of 1...

goodness knows what I'll do if they stop my landline working here. I have superfast fibre optic broadband coming through my landline.. and feeding my computer, iphone & Sky channels...
By the start of 2025 you will have to have your landline connected to a router. The router will be connected to the phone socket as it is now.It is Called VOIP.not sure what that stands for.
My phone is now connected to my EE hub as supplied by BT

I;m exhausted. It's past 4pm, sun is going down it'll be dark in half a hour....I've been out since this morning.

I went to the mall first..in the hunt for a new gilet, or Bodywarmer,.. and ended up visiting 1/2 the shops in the Mall.. including M&S outet store.. Got my hair cut , styled and blow dried..at the salon in the mall.. got 6 inches off so compared to this morning it looks very short.. but it's still past my shoulders..

Got a great Tan suede Afghan style 3/4 sleeveless jacket.. I'm really pleased with it. I hadn't intended buying something like that but when I saw it I couldn't resist.. and it was my lucky day because there was a 20 % discount on it as well..

I got the gilet as well but from M&S and not the fashion store I bought the afghan from..

then I had to drive somewhere else to go and buy a Thermos flask... those flasks are an astonishing price but this one place sells them for just £6 for 2 litre capacity.. so it's worth driving out of my way for it..

My rear indicator light blew while I was out so I'm going to have to book the car in PDQ, because everything is going wrong at once, and it's due it's MOT in a few weeks..

My landline has been connected to a router for years.. we had to get a new router which was sent to us by Sky about 3 years ago when the optic fibre was put in..

Had toddler grandson here yesterday, so did nothing but spend time with him and enjoy his presence! ❤️

Today I've got some business work to attend to and may also hit the grocery store and/or Costco. Last night I took 4 lbs of butter out of the freezer so I can start on Christmas cookie doughs today or tomorrow.

Well I just hung up from trying to get AT&T service help for
my landline....talking to a bot lady and apparently she has a
hearing problem, as she could not grasp the phone number I was calling about....it has terrible static on it....has happened before also....ah well...I'll get thru sometime or other.....😖
I have a lot of the same problem. Or did, til I got a couple of the local service guys to give me their email, so I could report direct. Now I usually get taken care of same day. Oh, and fresh cookies help.......before that, I contacted through the FB page and got fair service. Calling or using the web page is completely useless for landline work.
