Israel Has Declared War after Unprecedented Hamas Attack

There are about 900,000 American citizens, who are also Canadian citizens, who live and work here . Would you suggest that those Americans who live in Canada, should have their US citizenships revoked ? Do you see where that is not a good idea ? It is perfectly legal for a US citizen to hold citizenship in another country. JImB.
I suppose I'm not seeing the need for dual citizenship? When a new citizenship is granted why not require renunciation of the old citizenship?

I can see your point as well. When my grandparents came here, they couldn't, wouldn't, ever go back to the hell they left behind. They were glad to be here, and only here. Today, people have the means and the ability to keep their old country present in their minds, hearts, loyalties. When they come here from UNdemocracies and have split attentions, it could, and does spell trouble.

The people that I was talking about are dual citizens. They immigrated to Canada as Permanent Residents after being approved by our Government. They lived and worked in Canada long enough to qualify for Canadian citizenship. That process takes 5 or 6 years to complete. Once they have their Canadian citizenship, they can leave Canada and go back to live in the country where they were born.

While in Canada as Permanent Residents they try to have as many babies as possible, so those babies will be granted Canadian citizenship because " they were born here ". When those babies become young adults, they come back to Canada to attend a Canadian University, and because they are citizens they get the lowest tuition rates, and they qualify as "domestic students ". Their Parents who have Canadian citizenship, can and do come back to Canada for medical care, based on their having citizenship here. During all of this , they are NOT making any financial contribution to the Canadian economy, at all.

When those overseas "Paper Canadians " find themselves in danger, they start DEMANDING that Canada "save them " by sending our military forces and civilian transport aircraft to where they have decided to live. At the present time, the Canadian Government estimates that about 14,000 people with Canadian citizenship are living in Lebanon, and about 500 are in Gaza. Seventeen years ago, when the civil war began in Lebanon, Canada had to mount a massive "rescue mission" to bring them to Canada. MANY of them moved back there within a few years.

When someone who has lived outside of Canada for decades reaches age 65, they are able to receive the Canada Old Age Pension, even though they have made no contribution to our economy for decades. The only qualification to receive that pension is to be a citizen of Canada. The Canada Pension Plan is a second pension, BUT that program requires the person to make contributions from their pay cheque every pay period all through each year. The employer makes a matching contribution every pay period, too. The more the individual pays into CPP over their working life, the higher the monthly pension payment will be in their retirement years.

A person who has lived outside of Canada and has made minimal CPP payments for a short period of time during their stay in Canada, will not get much if any CPP payments in their retirement years. JImB.
Same thing happens here in the Uk ..not just from the middle east but from everywhere outside of the UK.....

Currently there are more than 50,000 ''British citizens'' living in Palestine ...

I agree that the problem with dual citizenship lies in opposing loyalties. It’s a practice I would like to see stopped going forward. Choose one.

Maybe the few here are aware that Israel is in the process of trading prisoners for 12 Israeli hostages and 13 Thai hostages for 3 times the number of Hamas terrorists. I’ve been following the coverage with another group where more people are interested.

This release is only a drop in the bucket. 240 Israeli and American citizens were kidnapped.

I had hoped to see the little Israeli/American girl, Abigail, included but she is said not to be in this first group. She is only 3, nearly 4, and saw her parents killed in front of her before being taken to Gaza by barbarians.

Ah, I see you started a thread now, Tabby Ann. (y)

Americans CAN renounce their US Citizenship, BUT they must ALSO hold citizenship in another country FIRST. link
US Citizenship Renunciation - Moodys Tax

Note that this must be done at a US Embassy outside of the USA. There is fee payable for doing this. Many Americans do this to escape paying taxes to the IRS while living outside of the USA. Only two nations in the world do that, the USA and some foreign backwater in Africa. JImB.

In your post 1113, you asked me if Muslims hate Christians and Jews and all non-Muslims, then why are Muslims doing public relations work with them?
I can only speculate that Muslims are doing public relations work in western democracies because they are trying to preserve their status and upward mobility as much as possible in the face of their more devout brothers acting so badly.
Well said. As an Agnostic I hope I can be objective. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all have a violent past, violence that was committed in the name of their religion, but only Islam continues this aggressive violence, but in general, most, but not all, of this violence is restricted to less economically and socially developed parts of the world.

The first symptom of the possibility of growing Muslim influence and perhaps eventual violence is a growing demand for the adoption of Sharia Law. At any rate I have often posted a link to a web site that posts a 30 day list of current Islamic violence around the World, and here it is again …
List of Islamic Terror Attacks

Please note that here is evidence of growing demand for Sharia in the developed world …
“The use of Sharia, or Islamic religious law, is growing in Britain, with thousands of Muslims using it to settle disputes each year, but women's groups and some others are objecting.”
Growing use of Sharia by UK Muslims
Application of Sharia by country - Wikipedia
Fact check: Sharia law could not be banned under a 1952 immigration law

Religious courts, in certain civil matters: If both parties or all parties agree (without duress) that seems adequate for certain disputes if they are not in opposition to the laws of the country of residence.

Has anybody seen the photos or videos of the Hamas attack on October 7?

I have read stories from people who have seen them, but the actual photos and video don’t seem to be available. Either they don’t exist, or aren’t as bad as Israel says they are, or the media is back to not telling us the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so as to manipulate us.

You must live under a rock. The entire world has been able to see the hideous acts committed by Hamas on dozens of videos. NOW, after 5 weeks, you question what happened ? Are you a shill for Hamas ?? JimB,

Are you serious?! Why the devil would we want to see (or would a government release to the public!??!) terrorists chopping babies' heads off?! Good Lord. Can you imagine the stink if that would be released?! Hamas already *did* live stream raping and then killing young girls and women. Was this a serious post, or did I just bite the cheese in a mouse trap?

Thank God!!! I pray the rest of the hostages are released soon. The family of the grandmother who was reportedly killed must be ecstatic to find out she is in fact alive and among those freed. I saw an Israeli mother on the news who's young so was kidnapped. According to the report, he pleaded with Hamas not to take him because he is too young.

She said that "No child, not Palestinian or Israeli should have to endure this". She said because children are innocent in all of this. God bless her for her level head and great heart amidst what must've been agonizing for her! I really hope her son is among those who were freed. I the beautiful little American girl who's parents were killed by Hamas is among them too.

God Bless her indeed, with tempers running at boiling point, it is so heartwarming to see someone who has not lost her humanity.

I am glad the tiny babies are being taken away to safety.
I am in awe of the doctors and medical staff who did not abandon their duty. That is courage, flames of hope in this darkness.
The doctors had nowhere else to go. The Israel Defense Force had the hospital surrounded and could have flattened to the ground at will. The doctors knew the hospital was the safest place for them.

Thank you, @Paco Dennis for introducing me to this lovely woman who spoke of her friend in your video:

Samah Salaime is the founder of Na’am/Arab Women in the Center. A social worker, she lives and works with her family in the Jewish-Arab community of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam and is a regular writer on Local Call, +972 Magazine and Ha’aretz. A Palestinian Israeli, hers is one of the most powerful and articulate voices raised against violence against Arab women in Israel and for gender equality.

I'm a Christian, I pray daily for the children of Israel, in their homeland and throughout the world in these times. I don't believe Palestinians are in better shape. Hamas and other global terrorists need to be eradicated. I'm very concerned about America's open southern border and who is entering. America will regret it to be certain. Sorry, Holly Dolly. I promised no politics and no religion conversations. I won't do it again.......

Yes, they absolutely need to be stopped. I am forever amazed (okay, stunned) at the number of people who don't get it... and who think that "stopping the war" would mean that Hamas would... what? Just stop their attack on Jews? Nope, never gonna happen as long as the terrorist organizations exist.

Re: "No politics"... our moderator has explained that the rule is about American partisan politics... so hot topic issues like border control, terrorists, etc. are fine as long as responses are respectful. We also talk religion, but yeah, that gets to be touchy with the mix we have here, but it's not taboo or anything. @MadMongoose66

I'm waiting for a Palestinian woman to share the same feelings. I'm waiting.......
I thought of something after I made my first reply to this. Muslim men are not to approach Muslim women who are not relatives. Therefore, they generally do not interact with them. This is not practiced as "religiously" in the west. But even when I went to the big masjid (mosque) my husband favored which mostly has foreign Muslims, women and men did not interact. In fact, as with all masjids we've attended, women and men have separate entrances. However, I've seen more mingling after services in masjids where the congregation was primarily African American. That's probably because many of us were born and raised as Christians.

When I attended the big masjid, I knew the men there have respect for me and not only because of who my husband was, but the only one who ever addressed me personally was the Imam and that was out of necessity. Anyway, I said all that to say, I've only seen male reporters in Gaza. It's unlikely a male journalist would approach any of the Muslim women for an interview out of the respect for the Islamic tradition. So it's also very unlikely a Palestinian woman would get a chance to express her feelings about all of this.
