US blocks UN Security Council demand for humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza

Sorry, but Hamas could release all the hostages today if they were interested in resolving a humanitarian crisis. But instead they do everything they can to continue that "crisis". So all the folks calling for peace need to direct their attention to Hamas. That includes MSF.

Israel won't stop either way. They won't stop until Palestine is completely destroyed. The idea they would stop if the hostages were released is silly. They would just attribute their continued actions by saying they were after Hamas. We would do well to remember, innocent men, women, and children are being killed every day, but since they're Palestinians, too few people care.

Not only should the hostages be freed, they should never have been taken. As usual, I have great understanding of your above cogent statement, @VaughanJB

I'm not going to debate the topic for obvious reasons. Again I'll state, if you take this recent flare-up in isolation, then you are missing 99% of the story. This event is part of a continuum.

Hostages were taken, fair enough. Israel also took hostages. But is the solution to hostage taking to decimate an entire nation, and to kill the children within that nation? That's the question. If you think it is right and just, then I don't know how the Palestinians taking hostages is an issue. The US will back a ceasefire as soon as Israel has destroyed Palestine. Since 2000 Israeli's have killed more than 2100 Palestinian children. Again, no-one wants to talk about that.

Still, I've already said more than I intended, so I bail out here and won't check the thread again.

These so-called "Palestinians" and their beloved terror groups, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. start these things, and now you want Israel to sit back and just say, "OK, it's been a month, you are tired of it all, and call it a day?"

Israel is a recognized sovereign nation and Palestine is not. They've had opportunities to gain some measure of recognition in the scheme of things, but choose to eschew all suggestions. Well, then, that's just too bad when allies come together to protect the attacked from the terrorists.

It's been occurring for century after century, and nothing changes with these lame brains. Israel, is sick and tired of it all, as is the rest of the world. So she has decided to destroy Hamas. Kudos to her.

There is so much more to the history of these people and one could, if truly interested, take the time to research it. You'd find it a fascinating and enlightening experience.

It took the destruction of the Nazi's & cutting off the head [Hitler] of their snake to stop them, then of course there was the follow-up trials that removed the other leaders. To stop that aggression .

Likely will take something similar to stop this aggression as well ..... jmo

The path to peace has to start somewhere, and the release of all the hostages held by Hamas is a necessary first step. Then, and only then, can the next step take place. Doesn't seem so silly to me.

But I don't support Hamas, so maybe it's just me.

So since you can’t tell a hamas member from a civilian I guess that means they intend to kill every adult there? I hope that the rest of the world objects before that happens.
After decades of reconnaissance and infiltration, the IDF and Mossad are very good at distinguishing innocent civilians from members of Hamas. In fact, they've spotted and detained or eliminated members of Hamas disguised as civilians using the escape routes set up by the Israeli army.

Israel also recognizes that Palestinian civilians under coercion, such as the threat of death or having their sons or husbands removed from their homes, will assist Hamas whether they are supporters or not. It's impossible to save them all. Reports I'm seeing say they are doing their best under the circumstances.

That said, I don't think the Israeli president cares much, and the Israeli people themselves are torn....some care, some don't.
