What goes through your mind when you gaze up at the stars and moon at night?

You were taught from an early age the earth is spinning. And, yeah, you kind of know that. But, on a cloudless night, you can sit there and watch the stars sweep by in an arc. Then it dawns on you-the stars aren't moving-you are. Wow, that really sinks in.
How about sunrise and sunset?

Mostly the second one.

But when I was a kid, we'd set up a tent in the yard and sleep out during Summers. We could still see a lot of stars back then even living in town.

On one occasion there was a pretty good meteor shower with some big ones. For a while afterward I found the night sky terrifying: "Death from above."

I meant the thought that it is the earth revolving and not the rising and sinking sun.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went on a camping trip.

As they lay in their sleeping bags and gazed at the zillion stars above, Holmes asked, "Watson, when you look at those stars, what do you deduce?"

Watson hummed and hawed around a bit and then said, "I deduce that there are more things out there than we know about. We might not be the only sentient beings in existence. I also deduce that we will never know what is waiting for us. What do you think, Holmes?"

"THAT SOMEONE HAS STOLEN OUR TENT, YOU IDIOT!"

I’m in absolute aweeee when I look at the sky at night. It instantly puts into perspective just how insignificant I am as a human being on our earth. Even our earth; our entire planet, is so insignificant in the scheme of things, we call life. I’m in complete AWE!🫢

I have a couple telescopes and I've spent many pleasant evenings scanning the sky. The photos you can see on the internet show much more. But, when you realize that the photons hitting your eye actually came directly from that planet, or star or galaxy or whatever, it gives you a feeling of being connected somehow to something wondrous that's incredibly far away. And, there is so much out there. I've seen some beautiful things. The feeling is a sense of awe.

It's sad that our light pollution has masked so much for so many. I envy those who still have a dark sky.
