...... Or do you just quietly admire the view and enjoy the heavenly panorama?
How about sunrise and sunset? You were taught from an early age the earth is spinning. And, yeah, you kind of know that. But, on a cloudless night, you can sit there and watch the stars sweep by in an arc. Then it dawns on you-the stars aren't moving-you are. Wow, that really sinks in.
I lived here for 30 years, so I've watched the sunrise/sunset move south in winter and north in summer. It's amazing when you see it in person. It actually does that. How about sunrise and sunset?
I meant the thought that it is the earth revolving and not the rising and sinking sun.Mostly the second one.
But when I was a kid, we'd set up a tent in the yard and sleep out during Summers. We could still see a lot of stars back then even living in town.
On one occasion there was a pretty good meteor shower with some big ones. For a while afterward I found the night sky terrifying: "Death from above."

Witches, owls, pilots, astronauts, bugs, and little green men.Who is up there, flying tonight?
If she's anything like you, I'm sure she is.I think .. "Mom, are you up there?"
I think that too... and I'm always amazed that the moon in my backyard.. well, above it ... is the same moon I see when I'm overseas....I think of how insignificant I and this whole world are in the whole scheme of things.
I often look at the stars and the constellations , just standing out in my back garden..and you're so right, that's very often the feeling I get too.. absolutely awe....I have a couple telescopes and I've spent many pleasant evenings scanning the sky. The photos you can see on the internet show much more. But, when you realize that the photons hitting your eye actually came directly from that planet, or star or galaxy or whatever, it gives you a feeling of being connected somehow to something wondrous that's incredibly far away. And, there is so much out there. I've seen some beautiful things. The feeling is a sense of awe.
It's sad that our light pollution has masked so much for so many. I envy those who still have a dark sky.
